Dominican Digest: Games of 11/27

Pedro Florimon makes his Dominican debut.  A big day for Jorge Polanco.  A walkoff wild pitch in Licey.

AGUILAS 6, ESTE 5 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Chris Colabello (Este) was 0-for-3 with a run.

Este:  Pedro Feliz was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Ricardo Nanita was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Claudio Vargas pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Aguilas:  Mike Bianucci (Texas) was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his third and fourth) and three runs.  Francisco Pena (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Angel Castro pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks.

The game:  Single runs in the third and sixth gave Aguilas a 2-0 lead.  Este got took the lead in the seventh, as a pinch-hit two-run single by Willis Otanez highlighted a four-run inning.  Rafael Ynoa (Colorado) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up.  A sacrifice fly put Este ahead 5-4 in the top of the ninth, but in the bottom of the ninth, back-to-back homers by Bianucci and Pena gave Aguilas the victory.

ESCOGIDO 5, ORIENTE 1 IN ORIENTE

Twins:  Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 1-for-4.  Deibinson Romero (Escogido) was 0-for-4.  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Escogido:  Fernando Martinez was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Wilkin Castillo was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.  Edward Valdez pitched 7.2 innings, giving up one run on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

Oriente:  Elian Herrera (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once.  Marlon Arias pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Martinez hit a single-and-error in the first to bring two home and give Escogido a 2-0 lead.  Herrera singled and scored in the bottom of the first, but Escogido got three in the third, including a two-run homer by Castillo, to take control of the game.  Oriente never threatened to get back into the game.

LICEY 4, CIBAO 3 IN LICEY

Cibao:  Wilson Betemit (Baltimore) was 2-for-2 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Moises Sierra (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Licey:  Julio Borbon (Cubs) was 1-for-1 with two walks and a triple, scoring once.  Yunesky Maya pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Victor Diaz hit a two-run double in the first and Borbon tripled and scored in the second to give Licey a 3-0 lead.  Cibao did not score until the sixth, but in the seventh an RBI double by Marcell Ozuna tied the score.  It was still tied until the ninth, when D'Angelo Jimenez opened the inning with a single.  A walk put runners on first and second and a bunt moved them to second and third.  A wild pitch then brought home the winning run.

Random:  Cibao used nine pitchers in the game.
