  1. Today is the day every year when we decorate for Christmas. We left our friends' house last night and they went shopping. Ugh. Oh well. They put on a glorious feast.

    1. It was busy, of course, but the line was unimpressive until we were almost open and it wasn't quite the blitz of usual. I go back tonight for ten hours and cleanup will be a huge pain, but I wonder if this will have provided any monetary benefit whatsoever.

    2. Our assembled group loudly mocked the idea of people shopping last night. I get the position of the stores, who are directly competing for those dollars, as to why they need to be open if the other stores are. This one is on the consumers willing to go shopping.

    1. Not so fast Runner:

UPDATE 2 (Nov. 29 at 02:30 UTC): This beastie continues to surprise. This SOHO image, from 00:18 UTC on Nov. 29, sure looks like something survived intact. At this point all I can say is the same thing I've been saying all along: predicting comets is like predicting cats. Good luck with that. For those keeping score at home, it got bright, then it faded, then it got all smeared out, then it came around the Sun smeared out, and then it seemed to get its act together again. At this point, I refuse to make any further conclusions about this comet; it seems eager to confuse. I've been hearing from comet specialists who are just as baffled...

    1. The talking point was preceded in death by "The Twins do the little things" canard and is survived by the "Joe Mauer is soft" bullshit and the "Torii Hunter wants to finish his career here" malarkey. A small, private burial is expected to take place on the first Iowa family farm Carl Pohlad foreclosed upon during the Great Depression.

  2. Those who have had 9 month-olds: How many times do you think they hit their heads and got bruised or cut? Mine is one at least bump 20 already. He just won't stop slamming his head into everything (unintentionally). Walls, floors, crib bars. His head constantly looks like we beat him.

    1. It depends on how adventurous or how much of a risk taker they are. My boys generally would avoid something completely if they got hurt by it, but I've seen plenty of kids that would be completely oblivious to danger no matter how many times they got hurt, especially at that age up through age 3 or so, so good luck.

    2. Our boy always had a bruise on the middle of his forehead. Question was which color it was at the time. My wife kept rescheduling professional photos waiting for them to fade. I think we got one.

Our youngest daughter was more like that, somehow bruised the sides of her foreheads. She has a real good attitude about it, and often cries a bit and then just stands up and continues on. She also always kept standing up in the bathtub despite always falling and submerging herself.

So did ours. I told the missus that it was due to boinking during pregnancy.

    3. Skim: almost never. Sour Cream: almost daily (exaggeration, but you know).

Skim was always careful, and Sour was always adventurous. She's not so careless as she grows...perhaps because of all the times she fell down the last few stairs or the time she sliced her head open because she felt the need to jump on the futon.

    4. The jalapeno wore a helmet at that age (because of an issue with his head shape), and a bonus benefit was the head protection it provided. However, when he was a bit older, he was always slamming his head into the underside of the pedestal sink in the bathroom. No serious injuries, but it drove me crazy.

    1. Homemade crusts? EAR made a key lime and a pecan pie (first time on each for both for her). Both turned out great, but I really miss the homemade crusts that either of my grandmas made. Grandma S's pies are still my all-time favorite. If you remember the old fried McDonald's pies, the crusts are similar to what I remember of those.

      1. Homemade crusts. It was a team effort - wife and daughter made the dough, I rolled and panned, kids sliced the apples, the grownups tag-teamed the rest. It was fun and delicious and there are leftovers and I want them I need them now now now.

        1. A pie making team effort? Interesting concept.

Anyway, your crusts look much better than mine did. But, all three flavors tasted great, although I did not get a picture of them.
