Venezuelan View: Games of 12/12

A good game for Miguel Sulbaran.  A Henry Blanco sighting.  And an eight-run inning!

MAGALLANES 8, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN MAGALLANES

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) pitched one inning, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Anzoategui:  Jose Castillo was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Alexi Amarista (San Diego) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Leslie Anderson (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-5.

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his fourth and fifth.  Ramon Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.  Justin Fitzgerald (San Francisco) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Escobar had an RBI single to put Anzoategui on the board in the second, but it was all Magallanes after that.  A pair of sacrifice flies put Magallanes up 2-1 after three.  Garcia homered in the fourth to make it 3-1.  In the fifth, Magallanes scored four times to put the game out of reach.  Mario Lisson drove in two with a single, and Lew Ford and Juan Rivera each had RBI singles.

LA GUAIRA 8, MARGARITA 2 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Shairon Martis (La Guaira) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up no runs on one hit and no walks.

La Guaira:  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring twice and two RBIs.  C. J. Retherford was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Chris Bootcheck pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Margarita:  Wilmer Flores (Mets) was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Henry Blanco was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double.  Luis Chirinos pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  There was no scoring until the fourth, when Rene Reyes delivered an RBI single and two more runs scored on an error to give La Guaira a 3-0 lead.  Margarita got on the board in the fifth on a Max Ramirez (Cincinnati) RBI double and cut the lead to 3-2 in the eighth on a Carlos Rivero run-scoring single.  La Guaira put the game away with five runs in the ninth.  Sanchez (White Sox) and Alex Cabrera each had a two-run single and Retherford drove in a run with a single.

ZULIA 14, LARA 4 IN LARA

Twins:  Miguel Sulbaran (Zulia) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.

Zulia:  Jose Flores was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third), scoring twice and driving in four.  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Hernan Perez was 2-for-4 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.

Lara:  Jairo Perez was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Andrew Lambo (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Nestor Molina (White Sox) pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.

The game:  A two-run single by J. C. Linares capped a three-run first for Zulia.  They followed that up with four in the second, aided by three errors, to take a 7-0 lead.  Lara came back with three in the bottom of the second and added one in the third to make it 7-4.  It stayed there until the seventh, when Zulia came up with five to put the game out of reach.  Flores had a two-run single in the inning.

CARACAS 11, ARAGUA 0 IN CARACAS

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-3.

Aragua:  Jonel Pacheco was 1-for-1.

Caracas:  Gerardo Parra (Arizona) was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in four.  Bobby Abreu was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Guillermo Moscoso pitched seven innings, allowing three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fourth, when an eight-run inning pretty much decided things.  In the inning, Caracas had four singles, two doubles, two walks, a hit batsman, and two wild pitches.  Twelve men batted in the inning.
