Day six of the playoffs. Starling was the star for Escogido.
ESCOGIDO 4, LICEY 3 IN ESCOGIDO
Twins: Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-3. Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 0-for-3.
Licey: Juan Francisco (Milwaukee) was 2-for-2 with two walks and a two-run homer (his third), scoring twice. Alberto Rosario (Dodgers) was 2-for-4. Francisley Bueno (San Francisco) pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with one strikeout.
Escogido: Starling Marte (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Eury Perez (Washington) was 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs. Edward Valdez pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Francisco hit a two-out two-run homer to put Licey ahead 2-0 in the first. Escogido did not get on the board until the fourth, when a sacrifice fly cut the lead to 2-1. In the sixth, a walk and an error were followed by a three-run homer by Marte to give Escogido a 4-2 lead. An error cut the lead to 4-3 in the eighth with the tying run on second and two out, but the last four Escogido batters went out.
AGUILAS 3, CIBAO 2 IN CIBAO
Aguilas: Ricardo Nanita was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Juan Perez (San Francisco) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once. Carlos Martinez (St. Louis) struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk.
Cibao: Josh Whitesell was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Francisco Peguero (Baltimore) was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run. Evan MacLane pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
The game: It was scoreless until the fourth, when Whitesell doubled in a run to put Cibao on the board. Aguilas tied it in the fifth on an RBI ground out. Cibao got the lead back in the sixth with an RBI ground out of their own. In the eighth, run-scoring singles by Nanita and Zoilo Almonte (Yankees) put Aguilas ahead 3-2. Cibao did not get a man into scoring position after that.
