Day nine of the playoffs. Dan Rohlfing gets a key hit. Cibao kicks one away.
LICEY 7, ESCOGIDO 3 IN ESCOGIDO
Twins: Dan Rohlfing (Licey) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-4, Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Licey: Engel Beltre (Texas) was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one. Erick Aybar (Angels) was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Esmil Rogers (Toronto) struck out six in five innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and one walk.
Escogido: Carlos Santana (Cleveland) was 1-for-3 with a double.
The game: Escogido scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The lead held up until the fifth when, with a man on first, Beltre circled the bases on a triple-and-error. Back-to-back doubles by Rohlfing and Jordany Valdespin made it 3-1 Licey. Licey made it 6-1 in the eighth on RBI singles by Anderson Hernandez and Aybar and a run-scoring fielder's choice. It went to 7-1 in the ninth. Escogido rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth but did not threaten to get back into the game.
AGUILAS 5, CIBAO 2 IN AGUILAS
Cibao: Francisco Peguero (Baltimore) was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Leury Garcia (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a run. Zach Kroenke pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Aguilas: Juan Perez (San Francisco) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, his second. Joey Terdoslavich (Atlanta) was 4-for-5. Lorenzo Barcelo pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
The game: Cibao scored on a ground out in the first and on Peguero's homer in the fourth to go ahead 2-0. Aguilas got on the board in the sixth with an error. In the eighth an error tied the score and Perez hit a two-run homer to put Aguilas ahead 4-2. A run scored on a force out later in the inning to make it 5-2. Cibao got the tying run up to bat with one out in the ninth, but a double play ended the game. Cibao made four errors.
