Venezuelan View: Games of 1/7

Day six of the playoffs.  Super Mario makes everyone Lisson.  Caracas is relentless.

MAGALLANES 11, ANZOATEGUI 5 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit an no walks with one strikeout.

Magallanes:  Mario Lisson (San Francisco) was 3-for-5 with three home runs (his second, third, and fourth) and six RBIs.  Ramon Hernandez (Kansas City) was 3-for-4 with a walk and a three-run homer, scoring twice.  Eliezer Alfonzo was 2-for-5 with two runs.

Anzoategui:  Cory Aldridge was 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.  Jose Castillo was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his second) and two runs.

The game:  Castillo and Aldridge hit back-to-back homers in the first to give Anzoategui a 3-0 lead.  It stayed 3-0 until the fifth, when Hernandez hit a three-run homer to tie it up.  In the bottom of the fifth, Anzoategui took the lead right back on a two-run homer by Aldridge.  The rest of the game belonged to Magallanes.  Lisson hit a two-run homer in the sixth to tie it at five.  Lisson struck again in the seventh, hitting a three-run homer to put Magallanes ahead 8-5.  A wild pitch in the eighth made it 9-5, and Lisson's third homer was followed by an RBI single by Ronny Cedeno in the ninth to make the final score 11-5.

CARACAS 12, LA GUAIRA 2 IN LA GUAIRA

Caracas:  Bobby Abreu was 4-for-4 with a home run (his fifth), scoring twice and driving in four.  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Franklin Morales (Colorado) struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk.

La Guaira:  Joe Thurston was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Guilder Rodriguez (Texas) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Alex Cabrera was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

The game:  Caracas scored in seven of the nine innings they batted.  A bases-loaded hit batsman and a sacrifice fly scored two in the first, Jesus Sucre (Seattle) singled in a run in the second, and a sacrifice fly brought home a run in the third to put Caracas ahead 4-0.  Abreu hit a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 6-0.  Caracas added three in the seventh, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth.  La Guaira scored both of their runs in the eighth.
