  1. That T-Wolves game last night was a lot of what I expected would happen this year. They just took it to Indiana all night long, even without Pek and Martin.

  2. Also three facts about last night's game:

Kevin Love had his 4th 40-point game of the season, which would be enough to be tied for the most such games in Timberwolves franchise history. His 8 career 40-point games are twice as many as Kevin Garnett had with Minnesota.

Kevin Love's 42 points are tied for the most against the Pacers this season. Love has more games with 40 points and 15 rebounds this season (3) than the rest of the league combined (2).

This is the 2nd time Kevin Love has had 40 points, 15 rebounds and 5 made three-pointers in a game. The other 2,607 players that have played in at least one game since the NBA adopted the 3-point line have combined to do it once.

He got those 42 points on just 22 shots. This just in: Kevin Love is good.

    1. That third one- 40 pts/15 reb/5 3PM- is the kind of stats-combining that normally makes me shrug, but when he's only the second player ever to do it, and he's done it twice... that's pretty awesome.

    2. Love had 19 points at halftime, then score 18 in the third quarter.

Also, 8 straight 25+/10+ games, the most since Shaq did it in 2005.

There has been five 40/15 games this year, Love has 3 of them.

    3. Maybe it is wishful thinking, but I still think Love could stay.

He wants a max contract and he wants to be the #1 guy. He gets that here.

I also think Flip will allow Kevin's input on the next coach.

      1. I would hope the fans getting Kevin Love elected to that All Star game means something to him.

        1. I think it did, his response seemed that he was genuinely humbled by it. I mean, at least I hope so. It's pretty awesome.

      2. I agree. I think that it's far from certain that he's gone. The Wolves have a solid core. There's something to build around here.

          1. I know the final decision lands on Glen Taylor's desk, but Im blaming David Kahn for that ridiculous contract. It seemed like everyone but the people in charge knew that Love was a max contract guy.

              You forgot Rambis.

    1. One county over and my sister and brother-in-law would probably be involved somehow, either as firefighters or for my sister, as a paramedic.

    1. Thanks for posting that, DW*. That's exactly the kind of article that I miss out on, now that I read a lot less sports journalism than I used to.

      * Whenever I say 'DW', I think of this.

      1. EAR just found season one of DWD on DVD at Costco for $9.
Same for C&DRR, Ducktales, and Topspin. She bought all but Topspin.

I am unfamiliar with most of these. I think I had random jobs by the time these were in rotation.
That or they were opposite Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Batman. Those three were awesome.
Tiny Toons did tire after a few seasons (with the exception of the fan-written episode), you could tell most of the people that cared moved to Animaniacs.

          1. Yeah. That's how much I know.
EAR wasn't fond of Baloo or the Orangutang or something, at least not as much as the Ducks or Rodents.

          2. TaleSpin was awesome. Right up there with DarkWing Duck. Weren't there crossover episodes? I might have to google that.

        1. I honestly remember the NES games Capcom made based on these shows way more than the shows themselves. Those are awesome games.

  3. Boom.

Can confirm time of International Champions Cup match between Man City and Olympiakos will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at TCF Bank Stadium

        1. I bought 2 for my wife and daughter but now my daughter's entire team may go together. I might go by default.

        2. What section did you get tix? I really can't plan that far ahead. If things are going good I think I will try to get tix on the street.

            1. And right now, I have 5 people confirmed for my 6 tickets so I may end up with an extra one (or have people back out when it gets a little closer).

      1. Which overtime rules?
NHL Postseason? Sudden Death 20 minute overtime periods at regular strength.
NHL Regular season? Sudden death 5 min 4-on-4 overtime then shootout. This is what they used in the men's prelims, I think.
Something else? Like 2 not sudden death overtimes, then shootout.

          1. Thanks!
If we get to the shootout, I'm guessing the breakroom will be full again.
I'm using my 30 minutes from NBC for this.

            1. Well good thing. Wouldn't want it to be lost by the team that should have gotten a penalty shot.
But crap, now I know how the figure skating turns out.

  4. Is anyone interested in joining a historic OOTP league with me (and TDO from the Casa de Leche)? The Boston Bees are available heading into 1983. They just signed Andre Dawson to a massive deal, have Eddie Murray, Randy Bass who has been a ridiculously incredible platoon player in the league (176 career OPS+), Rollie Fingers, and a bunch of open roster spots. They also have John Franco, Jose DeLeon, and Mike Boddicker down on the farm.

If interested, let me know and I'll connect you with the commissioner. It's a very fun league that I've been in for the past 22 seasons and requires minimal work (as little as five minutes a week, or as much as you want to invest). We use OOTP 14, but will likely upgrade again to 15 fairly soon, so the commitment is about $20/year if you upgrade when there's a discount.

    1. I might be interested if you're serious about the 5 minute commitment each week. (Well, really, < 1-hour commitment would be good.)

I remember doing a similar High Heat Baseball league years ago. It was really fun. Similar, but with current-day players and minor leagues drawn from the current minor leagues as a starting point.

Clicking through screenshots now, but if you've any more salesmanship to do fire it at me. Here or barry at bjhess dot com.

      1. I could ask the Commish. Ordinarily I would say not likely because he wants all the big markets filled, but we're likely to have expansion soon in a season or two, so a new Boston franchise could be created. I've got Minnesota on lockdown, though!

  5. Anyone else here paying attention to what the Braves are doing this offseason?

I'm not sure which is more likely- either they're being really smart compared to the rest of the teams or this is going to blow up gloriously. I know which one I'm rooting for.

    1. They've perfected projection and are taking advantage of it.

Interesting that every player is locked up to age 30 or through it for two. It seems like they've done the math and know some of these will blow up but do enough smartly and it will work out overall.

      1. EXACTLY what I was thinking.
Except Cleveland got their stadium first then paid their players. Atlanta gets their new stadium in a couple years.
