Minor Details: Games of April 5

New Britain gets rocked.  Not even a kernel of offense for Cedar Rapids.  Big innings give Fort Myers the lone Twins victory.

BUFFALO AT ROCHESTER

Rained out.

RICHMOND 13, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Corey Wimberley was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Nate Hanson was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Pitching star:  Cole Johnson retired both batters he faced.

Opposition stars:  Jarrett Parker was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, scoring twice.  Tyler Graham was 3-for-6 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Skyler Stromsmoe was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.

The game:  Richmond scored once in the first on a single, two ground outs, and an error.  The Flying Squirrels scored four more times in the third, with a three-run homer by Parker killing the rally.  A two-run double by Matt Duffy highlighted a three-run fourth that put the game away.

Of note:  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Taylor Rogers started and pitched four innings, surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  B. J. Hermsen pitched two innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk.  The Rock Cats made three errors.

FORT MYERS 13, JUPITER 4 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Mike Gonzales was 2-for-5 with a grand slam, scoring twice and driving in five.  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Brett Lee pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  Brian Gilbert pitched a scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Blake Barber was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Reid Redman pitched three shutout innings, giving up four hits with one strikeout.

The game:  Fort Myers scored eight runs in the first inning to put this one away early.  A single and three consecutive walks produced the first run.  Max Kepler had an RBI single to make it 2-0, still with none out.  With one out, singles by Gonzales and Travis Harrison made it 4-0, a bases-clearing double by Goodrum made in 7-0, and a run-scoring ground out capped the inning.  The Miracle scored five more in the fourth, getting one on a bases-loaded hit batsman and the rest on the Gonzales grand slam.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring twice.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4, scoring once and driving in one.  Kepler was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

CLINTON 4, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Michael Quesada was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Bryan Haar was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Brandon Bixler struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Felix Jorge struck out one in a perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Christian Carmichael was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Tyler O'Neill was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Eddie Campbell struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks.

The game:  Clinton scored single runs in the first and second, the latter coming on the Carmichael home run.  They added two in the fourth when O'Neill's homer was followed by a walk and two singles.  Quesada doubled in the lone Kernels run in the sixth.

Of note:  Zack Granite was 1-for-4.  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Starter Randy Rosario pitched 3.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks.

CLINTON 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 1-for-2 with a double.  Tanner Vavra was 1-for-2 with a double.

Pitching star:  Brandon Peterson struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits.

Opposition stars:  Marcus Littlewood was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Zach Shank was 2-for-2 with a double and a sacrifice fly, scoring once and driving in one.  Carlos Misell pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits with three strikeouts.

The game:  There was no scoring until the fifth, when Clinton broke through for three runs.  There was no big hit in the inning, but the LumberKings put together two walks and four singles, plus a bunt (the key to the inning) and a sacrifice fly.  They added three more in the seventh with four consecutive hits, a double, a single, a double, and a single.  The Kernels only once got a man as far as third base.  That came in the third, when Vavra hit a one-out double and took third on a ground out.

Of note:  Zack Granite was 1-for-3.  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-2.
