Minor Details: Games of April 6

Alex Meyer has a solid AAA debut.  Jose Berrios has a solid high-A debut.  Kohl Stewart has a solid Class A debut.  Unfortunately, none of them got a win, although Cedar Rapids ultimately prevailed.

BUFFALO 8, ROCHESTER 6 IN ROCHESTER (13 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Doug Bernier was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-4 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-5, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Alex Meyer struck out six in five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and one walk.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Juan Francisco was 3-for-6 with two home runs and four RBIs.  Dan Johnson was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.  Bobby Korecky got the win with four shutout innings, giving up two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Bernier hit a three-run homer in the second to give Rochester a 4-1 lead.  Buffalo chipped away at the lead, giving up single runs in the fourth and fifth and took the lead on Johnson's two-run homer in the sixth.  Buffalo got one more in the eighth to go up 6-4, but the Red Wings tied it in the bottom of the eighth on a walk, a single, a sacrifice fly, two more singles, and a bases-loaded walk.  There was no more scoring until the thirteenth, when Matt Tuiasosopo led off with a single, followed by Francisco's two-run homer.

Of note:  Darin Mastroianni was 1-for-7 with a double and a run.  Wilkin Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Ryan Pressly pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk.

RICHMOND 8, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting star:  Kyle Knudson was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  A. J. Achter struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Adrian Salcedo pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jarrett Parker was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Brett Krill was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Kyle Crick struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.

The game:  Richmond put together two singles, a double, and another single to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.  New Britain got one back in the bottom of the second, but the Flying Squirrels added two in the third and three in the fourth to put the game away early.

Of note:  Nate Hanson was 1-for-4 with a double.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-4.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-3.  Matthew Summers started and pitched four innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

JUPITER 2, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  None.  Fort Myers had three hits, all singles.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.  Steven Gruver gave up three hits but no runs in two innings, striking out one.  Madison Boer pitched a scoreless inning, allowing a walk.

Opposition stars:  Viosergy Rosa was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Scott Lyman struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  James Nygren pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.

The game:  Rosa's two-out double put Jupiter on the board in the first.  Rosa led off the fourth with a double and scored on a ground out.  The biggest threat for the Miracle came in the sixth, when they led off with a pair of singles (their first hits of the game).  A popped up bunt, a fly out, and a ground out ended the threat.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4.  Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, CLINTON 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks.  Logan Wade was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Pitching stars:  Kohl Stewart pitched five innings, giving  up two runs on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Yorman Landa struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Hudson Boyd pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jack Reinheimer was 1-for-3 with a triple and a hit-by-pitch, scoring once and driving in one.  Jake Zokan pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Reinheimer tripled in a run and scored on a ground out in the first inning to give Clinton a 2-0 lead.  Joel Licon walked in the bottom of the first and scored on a Bryan Haar double to cut the lead in half, and Garver homered in the second to tie the score.  There was no more scoring until Wade led off the seventh to give Cedar Rapids a 3-2 lead.  Engelb Vielma singled in an insurance run in the eighth.

Of note:  Zack Granite was 2-for-5.  Zach Larson was 0-for-4.  Josue Montanez gave up two hits but no runs in one inning, striking out one.
