PAWTUCKET 2, ROCHESTER 1 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1--11 INNINGS--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Brad Nelson was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double. Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Chris Rahl was 2-for-4 with a double.
Pitching stars: Logan Darnell pitched six innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Ryan Pressly pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout. A. J. Achter pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Garin Cecchini was 3-for-5 with a run. Christian Vazquez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one. Rubby De La Rosa pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
The game: Rochester got on the board in the second when Romero singled, Nelson doubled, and Eric Farris hit a sacrifice fly. It looked like the lead might hold up, but in the seventh and last scheduled inning, Cecchini led off with a single. Darnell was then replaced by Pressly, who gave up a game-tying double to Vazquez. Rochester loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the seventh, but a force at home and a double play ended the inning. The Red Wings again threatened in the eighth, putting a man on second with one out. Pawtucket put the winning run on second with none out in the ninth and on third with none out in the tenth. Neither team could break through until the eleventh, when Heiker Meneses singled in Bryce Brentz with two out. The Red Wings went down in order in the bottom of the eleventh.
Of note: Wilkin Ramirez was 0-for-4 with a walk. Chris Parmelee was 1-for-3.
ROCHESTER 2, PAWTUCKET 0 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Doug Bernier was 1-for-3 with a home run, his second. Deibinson Romero was 2-for-3 with a double. Eric Farris was 2-for-3 with a run.
Pitching star: Yohan Pino pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout, walking three and striking out four.
Opposition star: Chris Hernandez pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
The game: Bernier homered in the second to put Rochester on the board. In the sixth, Farris singled and scored on a Chris Rahl double. That was more than enough, as Pawtucket only once got a man past first base. That came in the fourth, when Brock Holt led off with a double and took third on a fly out. A grounder, a walk, and a popup ended the inning.
Of note: Chris Parmelee was 1-for-2 with a walk. Wilkin Ramirez was 1-for-3.
PORTLAND AT NEW BRITAIN
Rained out.
ST. LUCIE 6, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS
Batting star: Stuart Turner was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
Pitching star: Brett Lee pitched six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: T. J. Rivera was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Cam Maron was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Steven Matz pitched seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
The game: There was no score until the sixth, when Maron's two-out two-run single put the Mets ahead 2-0. St. Lucie put together three singles, a walk, and a hit batsman to score two more in the seventh and added another pair of runs in the eighth to go ahead 6-0. Fort Myers did not get a man on base until the fourth and did not get a hit until the sixth.
Of note: Dalton Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk. Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4, dropping his average to .193. Max Kepler was 0-for-3. The Miracle had four hits and made four errors.
WEST MICHIGAN 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS
Batting stars: Logan Wade was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jason Kanzler was 2-for-4 with two runs. Bryan Haar was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Brandon Bixler struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk. Brandon Peterson struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Javier Betancourt was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Brett Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in one. Wynton Bernard was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.
The game: West Michigan drew four walks in the first inning to score twice. The Whitecaps scored again in the third to go up 3-0. Haar had an RBI double in the fourth to make it 3-1 and Wade had a two-run double in the eighth to tie the score at three. In the ninth, however, Hudson Boyd came in and allowed four runs on four hits to allow West Michigan to take a 7-3 victory.
Of note: Zach Larson was 0-for-4. Mitch Garver was 0-for-3. Engelb Vielma was 1-for-4. Starter Randy Rosario lasted only three innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts.
