Minor Details: Games of May 5

Matt Carson makes the Twins pay.  Good starting pitching throughout the Twins affiliates.  A grand slam for James Beresford.

COLUMBUS 6, ROCHESTER 4 IN COLUMBUS

Batting stars:  James Beresford was 3-for-4 with a grand slam.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

Pitching star:  Brooks Raley, normally a reliever, made the start and struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and three walks.

Opposition stars:  Ex-Twin Matt Carson was 3-for-3 with a double, a home run (his second), and a walk, scoring twice and driving in four.  Giovanny Urshela was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice.  Ryan Rohlinger was 1-for-1 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

The game:  Carson's two-run double led to a three-run fourth to give Columbus a 3-0 lead.  Rochester came right back in the fifth, as two walks, an error and a Beresford grand slam gave the Red Wings a 4-3 lead.  The Clippers tied it with one in the sixth.  In the eighth, Carson came back to haunt his old team again, delivering a two-run homer to give Columbus the 6-4 win.

Of note:  Eric Farris was 0-for-5 with a run.  Chris Parmelee was 0-for-2 with two walks.  Chris Rahl was 1-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 with a double.  Doug Bernier was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Eduardo Nunez was 1-for-4 with a run.

The game:  Gary Sanchez singled in Williams with two out in the first inning, and for a long time it looked like that would be the only run of the game.  It was until the bottom of the ninth, when a two-out Nate Hanson double brought Wimberley home with the tying run.  Trenton regained the lead in the tenth when Williams singled in Dugas.  In the bottom of the tenth, a double, a single, and a walk loaded the bases with none out.  A bases-loaded walk tied the score and Wimberley then singled home the winning run.

The game:  Gonzales delievered a two-out two-run double in the first inning to give Fort Myers a 2-0 lead.  A pair of errors made it 3-0 after three.  Bradenton got on the board in the fourth, but it stayed 3-1 until the ninth, when a double, a walk, and an infield single loaded the bases with one out.  A short fly made it two down, but a walk cut the lead to 3-2.  A ground out then ended the game.

  1. Byron Buxton was 0-for-3.

Nice to see him playing. Hopefully no lasting effects from the injury.
