Minor Details: Games of May 9

Still few runs for Rochester.  A big inning sinks Fort Myers, aided by their own defensive ineptitude.  Lots of offense for Cedar Rapids.

TOLEDO 7, ROCHESTER 3 IN TOLEDO

Batting stars:  Chris Herrmann was 3-forr-4 with a trriple annd a rrunn.  Eric Farris was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Pitching star:  Ryan Pressly pitched three innings, giving up two unearned runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Mike Hessman was 2-for-4 with a home run (his ninth) and three runs.  Tyler Collins was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Starter Blaine Hardy struck out six in 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks.

The game:  Toledo opened the scoring in the second.  The first two Mud Hens went out, but a hit batsman, a single, a walk, a single, and a double resulted in three runs.  An error led to another run in the third, and Rochester was pretty much out of it after that.  The Red Wings scored single runs in the fifth and seventh but were never closer than three runs.

Of note:  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-3.  Wilkin Ramriez was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Starter Yohan Pino had his first poor outing of the season, pitching only 2.1 innings and surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

BOWIE 5, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN BOWIE (10 INNINGS)

The game:  Waring homered in the second to put New Britain on the board.  In the third, Hanson led off with a home run and Ortiz hit a two-run shot later in the inning to give the Rock Cats a 4-0 lead.  That was as good as it would get.  Bowie came back with three in the fifth, capped off by Schoop's two-run homer, and tied it in the eighth on a walk, an error, and a wild pitch.  Bowie won it in the tenth when Romero walked, went to third on a steal-plus-error, and scored on a single by Chieh-Hsien Chiang.

The game:  The story of the game was the fourth inning, which was either awesome or nightmarish depending on which side you were on.  Harrison had a two-run double in the first which gave Fort Myers a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth, Jupiter sent sixteen men to the plate, scored eleven times, and pretty much ended the game right there.  The Hammerheads opened the inning with three singles and a sacrifice fly to tie the score.  A single was followed by two errors which gave Jupiter a 3-2 lead.  The next man went out, but it would be a while before another out was recorded.  A single-and-error, two more singles, and a double made the score 9-2.  Yet another error was followed by two singles to make it 11-2.  That's one double, nine singles, and four errors.  Nine of the eleven runs were unearned.

Of note:  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.  Starter Alex Wimmers pitched 3.2 innings, giving up ten runs (two earned) on eleven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
