ROCHESTER 3, GWINNETT 2 IN GWINNETT
Batting stars: Eric Farris was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Chris Colabello was 3-for-5 with a double. Eric Fryer was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Pitching stars: Alex Meyer struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk. Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition star: Jose Constanza was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.
The game: Farris doubled and scored in the third to put Rochester on the board. Four consecutive one-out singles plated two runs in the fourth to give the Red Wings a 3-0 lead. Gwinnett got two on the first and the sixth but did not score until the eighth, Christian Bethancourt delivered a two-out two-run single to cut the lead to 3-2. A ground out ended the threat and the Braves went down in order in the ninth.
Of note: Deibinson Romero was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Brad Nelson was 1-for-4 with a walk.
NEW BRITAIN 6, BINGHAMTON 4 IN BINGHAMTON
Batting stars: Eddie Rosario was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs. Brad Boyer was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Mark Hamburger pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk. Adrian Salcedo pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.
Opposition stars: Travis Taijeron was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two. Jayce Boyd was 1-for-4 with a home run (his third) and two runs. Kevin Plawecki was 1-for-2 with two walks.
The game: A double, two singles, and a sacrifice fly gave New Britain a 2-0 lead in the first. Binghamton came right back, as Boyd homered in the second to cut it to 2-1 and Taijeron doubled in two as part of a three-run fourth that put the Mets ahead 4-2. In the fifth, Rosario hit a two-run homer to tie it at four. It stayed tied until the seventh, when a two-out rally was capped by a two-run triple by Boyer to give the Rock Cats a 6-4 advantage. Binghamton did not get the tying run on base.
Of note: Sam Fuld was 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Nate Hanson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Starter Pat Dean pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
FORT MYERS 4, LAKELAND 3 IN FORT MYERS
Batting stars: Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his fourteenth) and two runs. Jorge Polanco was 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Travis Harrison was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching star: Matt Tomshaw pitched seven innings, giving up a run on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
Opposition stars: Jeff McVaney was 3-for-5 with a home run, his sixth. Curt Powell was 2-for-5 with a run. Kevin Eichhorn pitched four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk with one strikeouts.
The game: An error helped Fort Myers get on the board in the second and Polanco doubled and scored in the third to make it 2-0. A sacrifice fly cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth, but Walker II hit a II-run homer in the fifth to make it 4-1. McVaney's homer in the eighth cut the lead to 4-2 and Lakeland got the tying run to second with none out in the ninth, but the next three batters went out and Miracle's lead held.
Of note: Dalton Hicks was 0-for-2 with two walks.
KANE COUNTY 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN KANE COUNTY
Batting stars: Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring once. Chad Christensen was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jon Murphy was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars: Hudson Boyd struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two walks. Brandon Bixler struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars: Juan Paniagua struck out nine in six shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks. Ben Carhart was 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs.
The game: Carhart homered in the fourth as part of a two-run inning that put Kane County up 2-0. The Cougars got the rest of their runs in the fifth, as Cael Brockmeyer delivered a two-out two-run single to cap a three-run inning. Cedar Rapids did not dent the plate until the eighth, when Christensen hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 5-2. The Kernels had the tying run up to bat with one out, but a double play ended the inning. They again got the tying run up to bat with two out in the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game.
Of note: Mitch Garver was 1-for-3 with a walk. Lewis Thorpe pitched 4.2 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and three walks with one strikeout.
DSL PADRES 11, DSL TWINS 5 AT PADRES
Batting stars: Jorge Andrade was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching star: Williams Ramirez struck out seven in four innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks.
Opposition stars: Carlos Sosa was 2-for-4 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in three. Manuel Vizcaino was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one. Joel Linares struck out eight in five innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits and no walks.
The game: Jose Savinon tripled and scored in the first and a two-out rally produced two in the third to give the Padres a 3-0 lead. Andrade singled in a run in the fifth, but the Padres came back with two in the fifth and Sosa's two-run homer capped a five-run sixth that put the game out of reach.
Of note: Gabriel A. Ynfante was 0-for-5 with an RBI. Antonio Tovar was 1-for-4. Eugenio Diaz was 0-for-3 with a run. Jorge Parra was 1-for-4.
