    3. Dorkman, 2000 here. I thot it was about invisible characters in movies, and my only guess was The Invisible Man.

  1. Another big storm here last night - a couple of inches of rain in about half an hour, plus lots of lightning. We lost power twice, once briefly after a close lightning strike, and again for a couple hours after another close strike. I drove around the neighborhood for a while afterward, checking where the crews were working and tweeting back & forth with a neighbor I've never met.

I spent part of the night wondering if our A/C got fried, half-hoping it did (it was installed in 1989, is crazy expensive to run, and we extended our warranty from when we bought the house), and half-dreading it did (because we couldn't get it replaced before our trip and the cats will be mostly home on their own).

Interesting night. Extra coffee may be called for today, though.

  2. Lots of Forbidden Zone action today from the Supremes.

    1. I don't know what you're talking about. As unelected officials, the judiciary is separated from the Forbidden Zone.

  3. Yeah, last night was dedicated to figuring out what to do for the Milkmaid's birthday. She's so tough to shop for because she's the opposite of materialistic and says she doesn't need presents (and actually means it). Regardless, she does respond to thoughtfulness, but rarely expresses thoughts of things she wants, so...you can see how this circle remains unbroken.

  4. Does anyone else serve on committees at work? I've got one that's starting to make me want to tear my hair out during meetings.

      1. I guess it's par for the course? When everyone on the committee is there voluntarily, hopefully everyone would share a basic understanding of the topics in the committee's purview. (I don't mean institutional knowledge, just knowledge of basic concepts.)

        1. Everyone is there voluntarily, but not everyone (in general) has the same goals is mind. Wait until you have kids and get to serve on PTA or boosters clubs. w00t!!!

    1. Yep, I am on a bunch of committees. Luckily, there's only about 45 people at our plant, so we all know each other and work together fairly well for the most part.

For the committees that don't fit that description- well, I also keep my hair very, very short.

    2. Ugh, committees. I've pretty successfully avoided them my entire career so far.

  5. Joe Mauer has raised his batting average 16 points in the last 10 game (.254 to .270)

    1. He keeps it up and we'll see him back at his career average (.320) about the first week in Aug.

        1. I guy can dream, but yeah, some multi-hit games and additional walks would be nice to see. BA aside, his .341 OBP is a full .060 below his career average. He's more than halfway to his career average for BB's in a season, but at 61 SO's, he's one pace to far surpass last year's record of 89 in 113 games.

          1. His BABIP of .332 is below his career rate despite his 28% line drive rate being the highest of his career. His K rate is only slightly higher than last year, but it has gone up for four consecutive years. His BB rate is down to 10%, which is still above average but below his career average of 12%.

    1. I really don't understand why Berrios hasn't been promoted yet. He's dominating the FSL.

      1. Yeah, I don't think Berrios is going to learn anything more from the FSL. I thought they were maybe waiting to move him until they had clinched the first-half title, but they've done that, right?

      2. Liriano got 21 starts in the FSL before being promoted and Berrios has only had 15, so he's on the same pace as Liriano at this point. If he isn't promoted by Aug. 1, then I'll truly be wondering what's going on. The only way it would make sense is if the Twins are being more cautious with Berrios given the injury experience with Liriano, but Liriano was always considered an injury risk given his violent motion while pitching, but I haven't heard any such concern with Berrios.

  6. Plouffe & Nunez are back - Florimon and Polanco return to their respective clubs.

While he was up, Pedro went 0-11 with 1 BB and is sitting at .092/.179/.132 with the big club and .230/.291/.330 at AAA. At this point, I'm wondering if keeping this guy on the 40 man makes any sense? Shouldn't they be looking to add another outfielder, rather than trotting out infielders?

    1. He's likely gone once they find a suitable replacement. Maybe Presley or Mastroianni are available?

    2. Wait! Maybe Florimon is an outfielder!
Better send him out there for a few weeks to find out.

    3. For this year, I think its handy if Florimon is around since the right side of the infield seems to be in flux. But if Terry Ryan can swing a Drew Butera type trade for Florimon, I wouldnt shed any tears.

The only way Flormion saw action in his second stint is when Gardy was absolutely forced to. Gardy used him properly.

  7. Shaddy McCan't cops to academic fraud at UNC. Does this mean compensatory draft picks for the Woofs?

      1. New rule: compensitory picks for all teams to whom this happens in the future.

  8. Also, milwaukee paid two 2nd round picks (that's a couple million dollars to Woofs' fans) for jason kidd's coaching acumen? Really?
