      1. Same. Though there's a few I know I've seen, I just can't quite place the names...

Also, thanks for doing this Rhu. I'd forget on my own, and am enjoying this quite a bit.

    1. I got 3 and 4. I feel like I should know three of the others, but my initial guesses were wrong.

  1. Instead of waiting for movie day, I wanted to highly recommend Snowpiercer. Cool action movie that doesn't have a whole lot of marketing muscle behind it. It kind of reminded me a little bit like when Alien first came out. The cast is not a lot of big stars so you you don't know who's going to die and when. Also doesn't have a "saw that coming a mile away" ending that is so common these days. Below is a review that calls it the movie of the year.

Unfortunately since I don't see a lot of Burger King tie-ins or other commercialization potential for this movie, I'm worried that it won't last long in theaters so check it out while you can.

    1. I'm intrigued and I've heard very good things. Remind me again when it's at the DVD stage and I'll check it out.

    1. Vance Worley, currently sporting a 2.28 ERA in Pittsburgh, just revealed he was allowed to pitch through pain at the start of 2013, despite not being fully recovered from elbow surgery.

      Awesome.

    2. I don't know how you'd measure it, but it would be interesting to know how much more, if any, this is a problem for the Twins than other teams. If something similar was happening on, say the Arizona Diamondbacks, would we even hear about it? In other words, is this a problem that's specific to the Twins, or is it a problem lots of teams have and we're just aware of it with the Twins because that's the team we follow?

  2. First Monday Book Day may arrive late this evening. Unless DG already has a post ready to insert, in which case, go ahead Dude!

    1. Oops, I was going to do the Hugo write-up thing, and then I never got it started. I wouldn't be able to get to it until tomorrow or late tonight either. I'll have to pass this month, sorry.

      1. I had both, but decided on the right since that is the side of the field first is on.

  3. Is there a day when (not)FKB is supposed to come out? or is it just during the month?

  4. We're leaving for cape cod tomorrow and I am having a very difficult time understanding why my wife and her sister feel the need to take every frickin thing they own for a 7 day trip in which we'll have access to a washing machine. I could only afford an intermediate car, so it's gonna be a nightmare.

    1. Ah, man. For our cruise, my wife is talking me out of bringing things. I'm so glad I married a minimalist.

      1. Her sister was planning on bringing four sweatshirts. Four f***ing sweatshirts! I fit all my stuff into a backpack. I know I'm not a woman (no offense pepper), and I'm an experienced traveler, but still.

        1. I have on several occasions gone overseas for 2 or 3 weeks with nothing but a carry-on. My sister brings three bags for a weekend at Mom's.

          1. I'm already planning on bringing rope in case I have to tie the trunk down. I'm also expecting that I'll get crap for not renting a minivan (except for the last day). There is nothing less relaxing than a vacation.

            1. There is nothing less relaxing than a vacation.

hj, this is begging to go on a banner. Magoo, this is begging to be a milestone comment.

          2. Sheenie and I did our Argentina/Iguazu Falls/Antarctica trip with nothing but a carry-on. 14 days with 2 being spent in a tropical rainforest, 5 in Buenos Aires where it was about 60 degrees, and then a week going to and from Antarctica. That was several climate changes for just one carry-on. Oh, and I needed a suit for the formal dinners on the cruise ship.

            1. I would like all of you (especially beau's wife) to please call my wife and sister in law and discuss minimalist packing with them.

                  1. More than the pair of pants you're wearing for only a two week trip? Who am I, the King of England?

  5. On July 22nd I'll be doing a 5 minute set at Rick Bronson's at the Mall of America. It begins at 7:30 and I'm likely to go on at the beginning since it'll be my first time. If you want to go, I have some free tickets. Let me know.

    1. Is this standup or music? Either way, that's awesome. That takes some cojones to perform in front of people.

    1. Good thing Goose Island is AB these days. Otherwise, that's pretty cool.

I've never used them, but the Great Dane has self serve taps. Truly, we are living in the future.

      1. There's a bar in Galway with taps at the table. You give them a credit card and pour yourself beer on demand. There's a readout that looks like an alarm clock that tells you how much you've poured. At the end, they charge your card. So awesome not needing to wait for waitstaff/stand in line at the bar, but so so dangerous for the old bank account.

        1. Yeah, exactly the set up at the dane. My brother's rehearsal dinner is at the one in Wausau, so maybe we'll try them out afterwards.

        2. The same idea is all over temple bar now. I'm not a fan of being charged to serve myself so I just go about it the old fashioned way.

  6. Berrios finally promoted to AA. Also, BA's midseason prospect rankings came out and Berrios is up to No. 27, which gives the Twins 5 of the top 32, along with Buxton (1), Sano (9), Stewart (30) and Meyer (32).

    1. This could mean that Berrios, Hicks, Rosario, Kennys Vargas, Buxton and Sano could all be playing for New Britain by the end of the year, assuming Buxton is promotoed shortly after getting up to speed at Ft. Myers and Sano is healthy enough to DH. That's also assuming Rosario or Hicks isn't promoted to AAA to make room for Buxton.

    2. From BA comments on rankings:

Berrios has always had good feel, but his stuff just keeps getting better to go along with it.

      Also:

Yes, Stewart has frontline stuff, but his advanced feel and smooth delivery are just as impressive.

        1. No doubt. 1 year from today, maybe?

          Buxton CF
          Mauer 1B
          Sano 3B
          Arcia RF
          Pinto C
          Parmelee/Hicks/Rosario/Plouffe LF
          Colabello/Vargas/Parmelee/Plouffe DH
          Dozier 2B
          Santana SS

          Rotation:

          Hughes
          Gibson
          Meyer
          Berrios
          Nolasco/May

          1. I would be really surprised if the Twins promoted that many young players that aggressively. I'd probably like it, but I'd be surprised.

            1. Well, once players get to AAA, they are just an injury/ineffective player away from being called up. Look at Dozier and Santana. Pinto, Meyer and May all are in AAA already. Sano was slated for AAA before surgery and will probably start next year in AAA. I think some had Rosario starting the year at AAA before the suspension. Vargas has been in AA all year and could be promoted to AAA at some point, especially if the Red Wings need a bat to help replace Colabello for the stretch run since New Britain is pretty much out of the playoff race. Berrios will need to dominate in AA like he did in High A to start next year in AAA, but he could be that high by June next year. Probably a stretch, but he is the Twins' best pitching prospect (according to BA). Buxton will probably be in AA in a couple weeks, which would probably put him on the same trajectory as Berrios. It is not likely that all of this happens, but I don't think any individual promotion is all that unreasonable. I also didn't mention the back of the bullpen would include Perkins, Fien and Thielbar. Nick Burdi and his 100 mph fastball could move quickly as well.

              1. Seeing you list Pinto as the catcher makes me wonder if they'll trade Suzuki at the deadline. He's on a one-year contract, isn't he? And his value will likely never be higher than it is now. I don't know how many teams need a catcher, but I have to think someone would want him.

                1. I expect the Twins to try to extend him in the next couple weeks and wouldn't be surprised if it is announced over the AS break. If that doesn't come about, then I expect him to be traded. Probably along with Willingham and Correia.

  7. About the only thing I liked about MUFC was their simply stated AON kits. I'm guessing with the rise in popularity of the EPL in the States due to NBCSports, Chevy wanted a bigger soccer presence. Also MUFC quite popular in Asia, is Chevrolet selling cars in Japan, Korea, and India?

  8. Work officially started on the addition to the Gettysburg church today. God definitely has a sense of humor--I probably know less about buildings and fundraising campaigns than any other pastor in the conference, but the church is putting up a three-quarters of a million dollar addition. It's certainly not thanks to me, but it is thanks to the people in the church who do know about such things and are willing to do the work to make them happen.

    1. Good luck, and congrats, Padre. We look forward to the photojournal documentation.

      1. Yeah, that's a fun little project, but what we're going to raise with it is merely one drop in the bucket.

  9. oh

    LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal
Nolasco has a sore elbow and is headed back to Twin Cities to be evaluated

    and oh

    Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino
Gardy called Nolasco an "old-school baseball guy," suggested he had been pitching through some level of pain he had kept to himself.

    1. Whoo!!!!
If anyone sees what the name on his jersey looks like, please let me know.
      His Twins jersey was DᴇPAULA

      1. #59 for the Orioles.
There's a clip already on his mlb.com player page of him getting to the game late, running from the clubhouse to the bullpen between innings.
        DᴇPAULA
        Just like with the Twins.

  10. just got a banner with Bootsy's old awning storefront on the left and the site motto in a cream field to the right. Very classy look.
