2014 Game 90: Twins at Mariners

Who wants to stay up and watch this one with me, assuming I actually do so myself? If you'd said before the season that the Twins would be 40-49 going into game ninety I probably would have been pretty happy about it, but considering how long we played .500 ball, I remain somewhat apathetic, particularly as one of my other teams - the Mariners - continue to play well enough to keep me engaged.

Two 7-7 rookies, Kyle Gibson and Roenis Elias, go today. Elias strikes out his share of guys - not quite one an inning, but fairly close - and doesn't walk many. He skipped AAA and opened the season with the Mariners and seems to be the exact same pitcher he was in AA.

I suppose I'll probably catch this while wishing we could just fast-forward to Dozier in the Derby. But what the hell: go Twins!

  1. Brian Dozier is on pace for 9 doubles this game. That would be a record.

  2. And here I am complaining about the weak groundout when the team's up 5-0 after an inning and a half. Perspective, spoons. Perspective.

  3. Mariners announcers are talking about how Felix is the obvious choice to start the ASG and how he's clearly earned it. They acknowledge Tanaka, sorta, who has a higher WAR. Even if they want to make an argument for Felix, this is far from obvious, as much as I love the guy.

    1. Forty minutes later, they announce that Tanaka is injured and is going on the 15-day DL. NOW Felix is probably the obvious starter.

  4. Billy Hamilton is here to stay I think. In this series against the Cubs, Hamilton is 7 for 15 with three triples, three walks, two steals and seven RBI, including one walk-off single that would have been a double had a runner not been on third base.

          1. I assume Suzuki can offer us more long term value in a trade, and something something Pinto.
