Saw J Mascis last night at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Just J playing his solo "acoustic" stuff. It was short, probably a little less than an hour. It was cool seeing him play lo-fi guitar as he is an amazing guitar player and typically if you see him, it's at ear bleeding volumes. I bet his amps truly go to 11. Also, if you have a chance, his new solo album is very chill, one of my faves of the year.

Bright Eyes which is a Neil Young cover band fronted by Alan from Low is apparently playing at Indeed Brewery on Saturday. Not sure of the time. I will be up north during the day but will definitely plan to be there, especially if it's later in the evenng.

Also I don't know if you saw on Facebook or twitter, but I saw Sturgill Simpson in London. Holy crap what a show. Definitely get tix for the December 4 show at Fine Line if they are still available.

Does Conor Oberst know about this?

          1. Looks like they are the headliners of the bill, with music going from Noon-10PM. My studio is about 200 yards (or less) from where Indeed sets up their stage for events. I remember when they did this last year, I happened to be up at my studio and I couldn't believe how loud it seemed. Luckily, most of the bands sounded pretty good. What pissed the entire Northrup King Building off was when they decided to do the same thing last summer during Art-a-Whirl. Windows rattled. It was nearly impossible to carry on a conversation with someone who wasn't 3 feet in front of you. Throw in the drunken brah crowd relieving themselves of urine and vomit wherever they could. Police and city council members were called. Threats of boycotts were made. I haven't had an Indeed since.

            1. Ooh boy. I'm going up north for a 20 mile hike-bike before it gets too damn cold trip. Get back to NE by 8:30 means I'd have to be done around 5:00. Sounds like a crazy day, but doable. Means I'll have to start hiking a little earlier than anticipated.

  6. Ex Hex is Mary Timony's (Helium, Wild Flag) new project, and my goodness is that record aptly named. Glammy, loud, 3 minute tunes full of riffs and tight little solos. Gonna clean my kitchen to this.
Also, saw Lucius at First Ave on Wednesday. Mixing everything from 60's girl group and power pop with Motown and EDM. Absolutely terrific performers. Now they need to put out a new record.

        1. I listened to it in the car last night, it's pretty awesome. I'm definitely going to see them when they play in Fargo later this month with Speedy Ortiz.

          1. They are in the Entry the following night. Unfortunately, the hotel is busier than sin that week so I don't think I can get the next day off. Fingers crossed, I guess.

      1. Ah, but you see I do that every week. This time I skipped the step where I type it up and format it.

        1. I just do the screen grab, myself. The old iTunes you could export the playlist to desktop and then cut and paste it into your LTE. I'm way too lazy to type the whole thing out.

          1. I do the list thursday night. Copy and paste it into a xcel file. Edit out song length, year, and genre then and e-mail to my work address. Friday morning I copy and paste here and do numbering and bolding.
