Fall Festival: Games of October 23

All the Twins batters do well.  Glendale wins a low-scoring game.  My nephew named his new daughter "Mesa".

SALT RIVER 5, SURPRISE 3 IN SALT RIVER

Twins:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-5 with a run.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Jake Reed pitched a perfect inning.  Zack Jones pitched a third of an inning scorelessly but gave up three walks.

Surprise:  Patrick Kivelhan was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.  Jace Peterson was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Carlos Gonzalez pitched a perfect inning.

Salt River:  Austin Nola was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Kaleb Fleck struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

The game:  Kepler's RBI double in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie to put Salt River ahead.  Rosario drove in an insurance run in the sixth.  Surprise loaded the bases with none out in the seventh and had men on first and second with one out in the eighth, but did not score either time.

GLENDALE 2, PEORIA 1 IN PEORIA

Glendale:  Corey Seager was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, driving in one.  Scott Schebler was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Wei-Chung Wang pitched four innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Peoria:  Hunter Dozier was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Tyrell Jenkins pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Schebler homered in the second and Seager doubled in a run in the third.  An error led to the lone Peoria run in the fourth.  Peoria only once got a man as far as second base after that.

MESA 7, SCOTTSDALE 3 IN MESA

Scottsdale:  Matt Reynolds was 2-for-5 with a home run, his second.  Elias Diaz was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Rob Whalen struck out five in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.

Mesa:  Kaleb Cowart was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Matt Olson was 1-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two runs.  Mark Sappington pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.

The game:  Scottsdale led 3-0 after three and a half, but Mesa tied it 3-3 after five.  Cowart's two-run triple in the sixth put Mesa up 5-3 and a two-run homer by Addison Russell made it 7-3 after seven.  The last nine Scottsdale batters were retired.
