Meshuggah are the godfathers of djent and an influence on basically every modern metal band. The drums here are double bass throughout--sixteenth notes interspersed with thirty-second notes.

I don't always dig Meshuggah, but when I do, I prefer this song. The drums always kill me.
Agreed. This song is really great.
I wish I didn't hate Catch Thirtythr33 so much because I really enjoyed everything before it. It more or less prevented me from really listening to anything after. Well, that, and a combination of not being able to spend much on albums and about a million other bands I haven't gotten to yet.
You and I have different tastes in metal, but I think ObZen is a consistently good album (it has "Bleed" "Combustion" "Dancers to a Discordant System" which are all good songs, plus a few others).
I also have Nothing and Koloss from these guys, but I'd say they are a step below.
I think Greekhouse once mentioned that I was missing out on ObZen, and I did enjoy the video above so I'm sure he's right. (I also saw them live at Ozzfest right around when Nothing came out. They're a damn good live act.) I just don't have much for music funds these days, so I really try to use them on bands I don't already own something from (or Epica. I'll buy whatever they release.) Contradictions Collapse is very good, if a little unpolished (because early in their career) and Destroy. Erase. Improve is a goddamn masterpiece.
I'd definitely say that obZen is their best work. Koloss is probably my second favorite, but it's not nearly as consistent. ObZen is just strong start to finish. Catch Thirtythr33 is a bit weird. I haven't listened to it much just because it's too long.
