There are ties in baseball, at least in the AFL.  Late runs carry Surprise.  Darnell Sweeney drives in more runs than the whole Scottsdale team.

PEORIA 4, SALT RIVER 4 IN SALT RIVER

Twins:  Max Kepler was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Taylor Rogers pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.  Jake Reed pitched one inning, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Peoria:  Bubba Starling (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Raul Mondesi (Kansas City) was 4-for-5 with a double.  Dylan Baker (Cleveland) struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Salt River:  Justin Bohn (Miami) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Mitch Lambson (Houston) retired all seven men he faced, striking out three.

The game:  Peoria led 3-0 after four and held that lead until the seventh, when Salt River scored four times to go ahead.  Two of the runs came on an inside-the-park home run by Bohn.  Justin O'Conner's (Tampa Bay) RBI single tied it in the eighth.  By rule, AFL games are declared ties after eleven innings.

SURPRISE 5, MESA 1 IN MESA

Surprise:  Sean Coyle (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double, scoring three times.  Patrick Kivlehan (Seattle) was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Sam Wolff (Texas) pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with no strikeouts.

Mesa:  Chad Hinshaw (Angels) was 2-for-3.  Dan Vogelbach (Cubs) was 2-for-4.  Felipe Rivero (Washington) pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Coyle's two-run homer broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning.  Surprise added single runs in the eighth and ninth.

GLENDALE 8, SCOTTSDALE 4 IN SCOTTSDALE

Glendale:  Darnell Sweeney (Dodgers) was 3-for-5 with a home run (his second) and a double, driving in five.  Nick Basto (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Matt Magill (Dodgers) struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.

Scottsdale:  Roman Quinn (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Josh Bell (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Jake Kuebler (Mets) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits.

The game:  Sweeney had a two-run double in a three-run second.  Glendale went on to lead 5-0 after three and their lead was never less than three runs.
