  1. No link because I'm on my phone, but the articles circulating about the famous picture from Iwo Jima are fascinating.

    1. It's pretty easy to share a link via the iPhone. When you are on the page you want to share, press the bookmark icon (square with arrow on top), and select 'copy'. Then in the LTE you want to post this info, press down on the screen until the 'paste' button appears and press that. Your link should appear in the LTE box. If you want to embed it, press the link button, delete the http// that is in the drop down box, and press that empty box until the 'paste' button appears. Press paste and proceed to what you want to call your link.

I fear my directions lack the clarity I'd hoped for, but I'd long ago given up on my dream of writing instruction manuals. 😉

    2. I read it. I think my favorite thing - in this story and others like it - is how those who claim to believe the original story the most aren't actually joining the conversation. They always, instead, opt to ignore the evidence and say "I believe this thing I heard and that's all I need." How does a person with that cavalier attitude become a historian?

      1. And the evidence that Foley and Eric Krelle raise — evidence such as cuffed vs. uncuffed pants and helmet liner vs. no helmet liner — isn't enough, Spence said, to override 70 years of established Marine Corps history.

Reminds me a lot of baseball history, and no doubt many other old things. Myths that are ancient or pre-date you are hallowed and can never change.

  2. took the TV back yesterday and got a new one. It's jizz-free. Thanks to all the Citizens who gave me sage advice.

  3. So, I'm gearing up for Black Friday Cyber Monday weekend online shopping, and I have a few items picked out so far:

    • Solofill*
    • Chromecast
    • Fitbit health wristband**
    • soundbar (thinking Yamaha YAS-103)

Anyone have any tips on wrist health monitors? Mrs. Runner was piqued by Fitbit, but I'm not against finding something well recommended. I've been looking here. I'd especially like one with sleep monitor, as I've been trying to convince her the magnitude of her apnea; I think if we end up on the RR's benefits (fingers crossed) she will take a sleep study.

*I know the hack to make this work on second generation Keurig

    1. I just bought Garmin VivoFits for J & I. They're $79.99 on Amazon right now and will be the same price at Best Buy on BF. I had a Fitbit Force before they were recalled and liked it a lot. The thing that appeals to me the most about the Garmin is that the battery life is a year and the bar that fills up when you don't move around enough. Ours come on Wednesday!

    2. You can do better than a YAS-103 (even for the money); it has no separate subwoofer, and suffers a tad because of it. Though, if you have no space for a sub, it's a pretty good buy.

Why Chromecast specifically? It's alright, but there are better streaming devices out there (unless you want to mirror from your phone or other device, in which case, carry on...that's the thing you should get).

      1. I'm looking for a (less expensive) soundbar for the downstairs TV, and I didn't see one for the price that reviewed as well as this did. If I really needed a subwoofer, I'd be watching with the sound system upstairs in the flexroom.

We all use Google Chrome and have Android phones, so Chromecast is a no-brainer. It wouldn't get a whole lot of use, so I'm not looking to spend much, either.

        1. If you're looking for something inexpensive to play things off of your phone, then carry on. We've considered getting a second one, because we use ours all the time.

    1. I saw that on the TV and thought "Well that would be exciting to have/see on my hometown team." Then I couldn't recall the last time I had such a feeling...it certainly wasn't for Nolasco/Hughes - no disrespect to Phil's achievements.

    1. Nice way to finish his career, too.
He had one hit in the playoffs this fall, his first-ever postseason appearance.
      .134 WPA added in a play-in Wild-card game.

      1. I'm still scratching my head over Yost's non-use of Willingham as a pinch-hitter. Futile, I know. Because Yost.

  5. In Minny this week. Just did 5 large windows with the plastic weatherizing deal. It works and saves heating costs (you can tell in minutes after you finish).

Not a connoisseur/maven of the industry, but I have formed opinions over the years. And Festivus/A.O.G. is coming...

3M - most expensive, but difficult to wrest the sticky tape away from the wrapper tape. Like seriously, folks. I spend a lot of time to ensure I don't have to pry it loose later. Best product to main-line the scissors thru the plastic to get a clean-cut.

Frost King - cheaper than Mining and Man'g, but plastic doesn't behave as well under the vulcanizing blaze of NBBW's hairdryer.

Dennis - under scissors, the plastic rips like 'Jack The -.' And too sticky - hard to work with as the new stuff catches the in-place tape too easily.

We did ours for the first time this year. We're hoping it keeps some of the north facing windows from condensating so badly when the bone-crushing temperatures come. We've already noticed some improvement.

The cat isn't particularly happy, though. She liked to put her nose right up against the glass, so she hasn't been sitting in the windows since we applied them.
