    1. I forgot those are named.

I now realize when I tracked down Blyleven at his SUV for an autograph years ago…he parked on his named street. That's funny.

  1. Had a chat about the Twins with a customer last night. He was optimistic about the upcoming season. He said probably wont make the playoffs, but more wins than last year because of signing Santana and Hunter. I was curious and asked him what he thought about Joe Mauer and he said he is a great player. I asked if he cared about Mauer lack of HRs, and he said something to to effect, it would be nice but he gets on base a lot so who cares.

So, my question to you, which one of you folks stopped into my store last night? Because most every other person I talk to about the Twins are the kind of folk that hang out in the Strib comment section.

    1. Couldn't have been one of us because...

but more wins than last year because of signing Santana and Hunter.

      1. Hahaha. yeah. My mistake.

But still, it was nice to hear some rational Twins thoughts by a real person, instead of the #hotsportstake of "Mauer sucks"

    1. I wonder if they meant loose-meat (a'la former Maid Rite in Albert Lea, Gopher Bar in St. Paul) vs. lose-meat.

      1. Tendermaid is definitely a loose-meat "burger" emporium. Maidrite wishes it were so good (Spamtown Represent! )

    1. I opted to go against your advice and watched the whole thing. I feel I made the correct choice.

I'm so glad he's back. Watchable basketball!

      1. I know the commentators said it last night, but a casual fan could pick it out too. When Rubio is on the floor, the team plays with a energy that is not there when Rubio takes the bench. Its crazy.

      2. speaking of basketball, I watched the Mavs-Warriors game last night. Holy maze-balls, that was fun. Maybe not for the Mavs, who led by 22 in the first quarter and ended up losing by ~a dozen. But it was a supremely entertaining, up-and-down scorefest.

        1. I watched the Bulls-Rockets game (the Bulls are never good when I'm watching) but was too tired to stay up for another game. My mistake.

      1. I dunno. It could use an umlaut. Look at how Mümförd does it. And his name just doesn't pop.
But it still might be the best overall: the back makes it.

I like the logo for ABBA one, but that could be improved with four heads, not two. Especially if illustrated by Pushead.
        "SOS Tour"? Not "Dancing Queene"?

The only one I could wear would be Bieber. But that's good enough, it gets the point across without frightening kids/wives.

    1. When I was a child, I went to Valleyfair and got on the Ferris Wheel with my father and two random teenagers.
Both wore Iron Maiden tees. This one and this one. They obviously made an impression if I can remember them today.
Even they got the point across without gore.

I still find the tees of KMFDM to be the best though. If they had this one in a toddler size, I would have bought it for HPR.

    2. Man, I don't wear metal shirts enough anymore. I think I only have two left that are in a wearable condition.

  2. How is a trip to the Como Zoo this time of year? Do you need to spend a ton of time outside, or are most of the exhibits indoors.

    1. I wouldn't know. I tried going there with CER when she was 6 on a "Daddy Daughter Day" in early March, only to find that it closed at 4PM.
      So: check the hours.

    2. My kids go there pretty regularly year-round; you can see a lot indoors. (The ungulate building can get pretty stinky, though.) Plus, the conservatory is indoors and has wonderful warm air.

    3. Growing up, we loved Como in the winter. Took my kids there a few years ago on a cold day and it was a huge hit. Small enough zoo that you're never outside for too long. Also, dido Pepper on the conservatory.

      1. Thanks for the tips, folks! I'm trying to think of something to do with J next week when we're down, and I wanted to go somewhere we haven't. I'm thinking I might take her to Como on Friday.

    4. I recall an unfortunate trip during mating season one year...I thought late winter. Depending on your audience it could make for an awkward date or very informational outing with the kids. Hopefully not a very informational date.

  3. On the Grill In the 5x9" Baking Pan.

Meatloaf mas fina (OK to liberally replace with stuff you have - I did).

1lb ground beef, 1 egg, 1 c. breadcrumbs (for me this was remaining Panko breadcrumbs laced with remaining stuffing mix), chopped red onion, cup milk, salt+pepper, some ketchup+mustard, dried garden herbs crushed w/ mortar-pestle (oregano, basil, rosemary). Topped with mixture of ketchup+brown sugar (was out, so used white sugar+molasses). Bake at 1 hr at 350F.

      1. I feel like someone should make a comment about 2 out of 3 not being bad. But then I realized that you are that someone.

            1. When eating leftovers I've often felt disappointed, thinking that it was so much better than it is today.

              1. It can be rough, but ya gotta eat. A man, he doesn't live by rock'n'roll and brew alone.

    1. I had a smoked meat loaf at a restaurant in StL a couple years ago. I've been trying to smoke meat loaf ever since. Mine have been ok but not close to as good as the restaurant version.

      1. We used to get a swarm of Cedar waxwings at the house in Scandia. I had planted a row of Highbush cranberries along the driveway a long time ago. There was still plenty of fruit on them going into October/November. The waxwings would come in bomber squadron formation and attack them, then split. Never saw Bohemians, tho.

      2. They fly a lot like Starlings, and that's about their size. But you won't see them sitting on wires.

    1. I hadn't stopped there yet today.
I had waxwings (all cedars) in the neighborhood all winter long last winter when things were arcticly vorticial.
Now this milder winter and I haven't seen them since maybe November. So that's what it means by nomadic and erratic.
I think it has something to do with the hard freeze after that big early November snowfall, followed by a real thaw about a month later. The berries and crabapples etc on trees never had time to dry out and when it warmed up again they were squishy mush and fell to the ground.

I had waxwings all summer though.
They're a great bird to watch. They'll "sally" (flycatch from a branch) when there are bugs out, sometimes ditching the perch to the point of hawking bugs like swallows. Other times they'll eat your berries until they can't eat anymore. Sleek looking, too. If they had a voice worth anything, they'd be inner-ring bird HOF.
When I've had many big flocks (maybe a dozen of 40-100 birds) in the neighborhood in summer and fall migration, it seems like each flock had a Robin or two to herd it. "Cher-cher" from the Robin and the flock would rise up or retreat to lower vegetation or leave together. It didn't seem that the Robin was chasing or pestering because until that point, the Robin would sit on a prominent perch in the flock and just watch what was going on.

I've never seen a Boho Waxwing.
