So, I was trying to think of a worthy and momentous way to close out this (truthfully) spontaneous celebration of women in music, but I eventually came to the conclusion that I'd like to think we do a pretty good job on a daily basis exposing the several people that listen to many females of past, present, and future. That said, these past few weeks have still been a lot of fun, and a well deserved showcase.
Somehow, we've yet to feature Ms. Prass. In all truthfulness, I've loved her debut, but something is still lacking that I can't quite put my finger on. I'm stingy with my stars, but I'd still give it at least an 8/10. Here she is just recently down in Austin playing a stipped down number from her new one.
2015; like 2 weeks ago
EDIT: holy crap, I thought her guitarist was playing a right handed guitar with the strings reversed, like you do, but no, he's just playing it upside down. who does that!?
If I had to sum up the last month (or whatever it actually was), I would do it like so:
httpv://youtu.be/3y-1H9kAg3s
1999; Bronco Bowl Theater; Dallas, Texas
The video quality leaves something to be desired, but quality of the sound itself is good.
Bootsy, if you're around this might better capture the experience of seeing Ani Difranco live than the video earlier this month. If you only heard her studio albums, I think you might have been missing some of what makes her so great.
(I also have further thoughts on her appeal that have to do with being a 17-year-old girl living in a not very diverse suburb and discovering Ani after being surrounded by mainstream crap for years. The contrast was striking, to say the least, but probably not quite so, uh, relevant to your situation.)
This and "My Baby Don't Understand Me" are the highlights, for sure.
But even between them, there's a certain similarity between the two that lessens the impact of both.
Maybe it's that it could easily have been "Why Don't You Understand Me?" and "My Baby Don't Believe in Me".
I made a mix CD for my sister in AK of some newish stuff she might like, with one or two songs per artist, with both songs from an artist back to back. I almost changed that, just for both Prass songs.
Also, thanks to Zack for his week earlier this month! He already knows I enjoyed it, but I figure I might as well say it here too.
I like how much she seems to enjoy what she does.
