If Spooky isn't actually going to publish his draft of today's Cup of Coffee, I guess I'll just steal his title.

You could have just published it, Phil.
If he's not an editor then he wouldn't be able to publish it.
Yeah. I tried to publish it, but it wouldn't let me. I couldn't even view the actual draft. All I could do was see that it existed on the list.
Is this describing the beginning of the Twins season. Big hole in the ground, and all washed up.
My original text in the body was:
"It's still baseball...sort of."
Hughes was decent enough on Monday, but if that's representative of what they are gonna get from Nolasco, it's gonna be another tough one.
With the other teams doing what they did in the offseason, fifth place was pretty likely. I just want to see some respectable ball and maybe 70-73 wins. All is not lost, but woof.
See below.
Molitor says Ricky Nolasco felt pain in his elbow in the Avila AB in the 3rd yesterday. He flew back to MIN this a.m. to get checked out.
At 10:10a, presale tickets still available. No guarantee for how long.
EDIT: Sorry gone, which bummed me out. I was going to buy one and scalp it. Came here first to post.

The NBA playoffs are going to be epic. Who's with me on that? (Okay, the East first round is icky, but other than that, whoa.)
co-sign. At least for the Western Conference.
The Western Conference playoffs are going to be must see TV. I am very excited.
The (L)Eastern conference having 3 teams under .500 won't be all that fun. But I'm guessing the next couple rounds should be great.
Especially if the Pelicans make it in.

Pepper,
If you were there today, apologies for my absence.
Ten minutes before out-the-door, I'm informed that the kids' toilet is overflowing. Sure enough, and it had been for a while.
Feces-tinged water into the carpeted hallway and into the floor and through the ceiling of the kitchen (immediately below), which he had replaced about a year ago when we finally fixed the leak from the outside that got in there.
Into the microwave exhaust duct and through the microwave hood vents onto the stove.
So I got in late.
And then I left my umbrella on the bus.
I would have looked pretty ridiculous in sunglasses today anyway.
Also, I was 10 minutes early. The peperoncino was kind enough to wake me at 5:30 in a most scream-y way, which got everyone out of the house faster. Despite the rude awakening, it sounds like my morning went way better than yours. (Ugh!)
Whenever you two make the handoff, proceed with extreme cautious. I have intel that there may be foreign agents trying to capture the exchange on film.
If you were 10 minutes early, I probably would have seen you on the bus I intend to take every day.
The bus I usually take every day gets me downtown 20 minutes later, but it doesn't come so close to my house so I can only leave 10 minutes later.
The walk is along the bike trail bordering the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, so it's not a complete loss, just inefficient.
Before the September schedule change, if I missed my intended bus, I could just hold pat or walk further north along the same road and get picked up by the next bus.
Now I have to decide if I've missed that bus or if it's just running late. If I think I've missed it, I've got to truck 3 blocks through boring residential areas or 4.5 via said trail.
Oof. Been there. My kids now panic whenever they see any amount of water on the floor in the bathroom.
Did we ever do our predictions for the season?
I didn't.
I predict 160 wins in the games remaining for the Twins.
I predict that before the All-Star break, Torii Hunter will punch at least one teammate and throw another under the bus. Literally.
The Wild play tonight in Nashville.
Most of the other playoff-bound (or nearly so) Western Conference teams play as well.
However, it is not possible for the Wild's first-round matchup to be decided tonight. They will have to wait until the final day of the season (Saturday) for that.
Of particular interest if you want "playoff atmosphere" hockey is LA @ Calgary. Calgary needs two points to clinch a playoff spot. LA is eliminated from playoff contention if they don't get any points.
Should they conspire to take it to overtime?
They won't because if LA gets in, it's Calgary that goes out (most likely - scenarios exist for Winnipeg to miss out, but unlikely scenarios they are).
I'm hoping for a win w/o Dubnyk in goal, as that could send a very strong message about the strength of the team and be good for their collective psyche and other soft predictors of sports performance.
Yup. I just wanted to comment on the potential payoff of the move.
I don't really eat much bacon, but when I'm told I shouldn't have any, I suddenly want to eat all the bacon everywhere.
You can substitute the skin of a smoked chicken, duck, or turkey to satisfy that craving.
Also, well wishes and prayers from our family for you.
Feel lucky it was a stent and not a stint you had inserted into your artery.
that would have been quite a stunt.
I feel guilty for my bacon cheese sandwich at lunch now
think of it as vicarious eating for Twayn. He'd WANT you to eat that sandwich for him.
Saw two white ducks with dark heads in a pond on the drive to work this last week. Gone now, so just passing thru. What do you think they were?
Waterfowl.
I think that gives us five ducks to look at. (The sixth would be some "manky" Mallards, but I doubt you'd find two together fitting that description.)
Common Merganser drakes, a bit bigger than Mallards:
These winter on the Mississippi River as far north as they can find open water, they're pretty much vacated my area already. I'd think they'd have done the same around the ocean.
Canvasback drakes, Mallard-sized:
These are pretty rare that far east, though. Good find if you saw them.
Common Goldeneye drakes, smaller than Mallards:
Same comment as Common Mergansers.
Greater Scaup drakes, about the same size as Goldeneyes:
(Or Lesser Scaup drakes, pretty much the same thing. I think Greater Scaup are more common along the coastal areas, but I don't know about in New Britain particularly.)
Don't exactly look white though, maybe in the right light?
Bufflehead drakes, much smaller than Mallards:
I don't know if you'd call these dark-headed, because that white section is pretty big and notable.
I'll go with number 1 - the white was brilliant white - don't remember a red beak tho, but it was morning light. They are gone now, were just passing thru to head north is my guess.
The one you picked can be cream white, like the Giants' home unis. All the others are light grey to snow white: no warmth.
The beak and shape both stand out, they look as different from other ducks as Loons or Grebes do.

The #Mets will pay Matt Harvey $614,125 this season. They will pay Bobby Bonilla $1,193,248 on July 1 this #MLB season,
That Bonilla contract is the gift that keeps on giving.
Steps have been taken to make kraut using the new Kraut Source fandangle. I will post pictures.
Well, thanks for reminding us all how important Dubnyk is to this team, Mr. Darcy.
Oh, 0-2 after the first period, how we've missed you.
It only took what, the first shot of the game for a goal to be scored?
Went to the store. Did I miss anything?
Waterfowl
Big Bang Theory pre-empted 5 minutes in for storm coverage in Illinois, it's been that kind of day
Anyone (Zack?) watch Fullmetal Alchemist?
I started last night and I've been quite enjoying it.
Tonight I got to episode 7, "The Cry of the Chimera".
Well, shit, there went my chances of sharing this with the kids any time soon. There were dark rumblings going on before, but not this.
And the episode before it was so happy and light. I had to stop watching and come here to ID ducks by NBB's vague description.
BTW, I'm watching the Japanese voice track with subtitles. My old Blu-Ray doesn't let me use alternate audio tracks (or captions) for Netflix.
Okay, if Episode 7 didn't do it, Episode 8 would have kept it from the kids' rotation via the serial killer who threatens to cut up Winry. But that wasn't as disturbing as what happened to Nina, and who did it. Plus, the opening credits show an older Winry, so I wasn't worried for her safety. Here I just thought the serial killer was Tucker-san.
For Episode 7, they even changed the closing credits, with an extra verse, and Ed's smile at the end (before the word "Darling") is replaced with tears in the same pose.
Speaking of the opening credits, I think they're great. Of the 9 episodes I've watched so far, in all but one episode it seems that the opening voice over (over the series of family portraits), though it's always the same words, answers the last line of the opening scene before it.
There's also a lot of suggestion of what's coming without any complete giveaways. The words "At the time we believed..." foreshadows a change in beliefs that hasn't come yet (and hadn't through episodes 1-2, which came much later than 3-9). But maybe that's intentional via translation?
Also, the highlighting on the photos, first whiting out the Dad's image, then the Mom's, and then Ed's, suggests that Ed may have to sacrifice himself to return his brother to a body. I'm sure that's deliberate, but is it a false lead.
I noticed that Netflix has another series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I don't know if that's a sequel, more backstory, or an alternate telling.
So, I'm pretty much sold on this show...
So, in the original anime, FMA, the plot diverges from the manga around half way through the episodes and does its own thing. The manga wasn't complete, and the author said she wanted to keep going with the manga and gave the staff her approval to finish it on their own.
FMA Brotherhood follows the manga's story much more closely. I guess that they redo some of the fight scenes, etc. in the earlier episodes where it's going over stuff that was in the original anime.
When you're done, another of the mangaka's properties, Silver Spoon, was recently adapted into an anime. It's a huge departure from FMA, as it's a slice of life story about growing up on a farm. It's apparently REALLY good and it's on my short list of stuff to watch since J & I like to watch these calm shows together.
You could have just published it, Phil.

Eventually they'll have no choice but to call up Meyer.
[incorrect statement]
He's already in.
Yup, spaced that for some reason.
I missed what was before but this works just as well if interpreting it as the Twins finding any way possible to avoid calling up Meyer.
I just assumed it was the avoid interpretation the first time, because, yeah... TWINS FRELLING BASEBALL!!.
It was Millone. But, the longer Meyer stays in the minors, the more I'm convinced the Twins think he's not all that.
For now, it will be May that would replace Nolasco since May was the last sent down.
ALL IS LOST
The Twins invested $100 million in Nolasco and Santana. You know that Nolasco is going to try and rehab his elbow before he gets the TJ done, right?
rehab with PEDs, you mean?
The longer he is out, the more we'll see of the younger, better pitchers.
No. We won't get that lucky. I can virtually guarantee Pelfrey will be in the lineup, Nolasco will be out, and we don't get a win until Wednesday.
I've been thinking a lot about that show lately too.
Morrisey at the Fitzgerald Presale is going on. See link.
