  1. Blaine Boyer is tied for 2nd in the AL with 9 appearances.

    That.... is not good.

      1. I hope that is the case. Lester Oliveros is looking pretty good striking out everyone down in Rochester.

    1. Sophomore slump? I've not been impressed with his fielding much this year, and his Mendoza-like hitting speaks for itself.

    1. I didn't see that, but I did see the Olynyk play. His wallet should be lightened after that.

      1. And I did not see that. Two teams determined to give money to the league office today, I think.

  2. We are putting in an app on a place in St. Paul about 3 blocks from the Blue Door. Very exciting stuff.

This'll be the fourth state capital I've lived in (Indianapolis, Des Moines, Austin)

      1. I'd say it does. I've lived in 2.5 national capitals: Dublin, Prague, and the half is DC suburbs. And even then that should probably .25 since I was way the hell out in Loudoun County.

      1. I've got a little variety: St. Paul & Williamsburg (Colonial Virginia's capital) and London.

I concur with Algonad, that is a nice area and the Blue Door is pretty great...hope it works out.

        1. Austin was capital of the Republic of Texas too, now that you mention Williamsburg made me think.

          1. ok, so then I will claim that I've lived in one national capital and four county seats! (plus I lived in Champaign, in Champaign County, whose county seat is...Urbana? Yep. Urbana.)

        1. He leads the league with 14 walks. His OPS is his best since 2007. Even if it's closer to 2009, that's still about 30 home runs. He just might have 56 home runs left in him to pass Ruth.

        2. The LCS owner here is hoping that Arod is just good enough to have to stay on the roster, but sucky enough that the team hates it, like late Jeter. Don't want to wish well on the Yanks.

          1. A player can easily hit 40 homers and their team misses the playoffs.

I'm wondering even if A-Rod has a good year, does anyone sign him next year? He's certainly more versatile defensively than Bonds was when his contract was up, but Bonds was extremely valuable at the plate and no team was willing to have him around.

            1. The Yankees have him under contract through 2017 at $20 million per year. His contract is the gift that keeps on giving.

Also: My dream scenario is for the Yankees to be drug to the finish line on the back of an MVP year from A-Rod only to miss the playoffs by one game.

              1. Better: make the one-game WC, on A-Rod's back, then have him go 0-4 with 6 LOB's as Yanks lose the game by 1.

                1. Ooooh there we go!

I mean after watching Jeter limp to the finish line, the Bronx faithful deserve watching the best shortstop of his era end his career without embarrassing himself!

  3. Q: How many software engineers does it take to fix a garage door opener?
    A: None, it's a hardware problem One, I think

So, I successfully replaced the drive gear and worm gear in our main garage door opener, and was in the process of adjusting the door limits when *poof* a small cloud of smoke pours out of the opener. First guess is the motor starting capacitor, and some googling seems to confirm this. Took the lid off and didn't see any direct evidence of damage, and the darn thing worked still, but just a little use and smoke returned, definitely from the capacitor. So, after initially waiting on Sears Parts Direct for parts to ship, now I'm waiting on eBay for parts ot ship. Still, it's better than a flatline.

  4. You can tell that John Kruk does not follow the Twins because he was grousing about injured players going on the disabled list too quickly these days.

Also, that is a pretty stupid opinion to have.

    1. One of the things Bill James did in his historical abstract is find quotes in every decade, going back to at least the 1870s, from old ballplayers grousing that the modern players weren't as tough as they were when they played.

      1. "We got spiked by three different players back in my day! Rub some dirt on it!" ~ some guy, probably.

      2. Considering how poorly players were treated until free agency came around, it would be interesting to see when players would still get paid even when hurt. It's difficult to imagine this was always the case. So I'm sure players would play a lot more when they were hurt just to keep receiving their meager paychecks. Also, prior to free agency, players were given contracts from year to year, so if you were hurt at the end of the year, you could just be released or left unsigned.

        1. Also, owners have figured out that if they have a long term investment in a player and he's hurt, they are screwing themselves if they don't let him get healthy.
