June 2, 2015: We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

While at work I missed the "popular movie quotes that have penetrated into everyday speech" conversation yesterday; the above is one I've used here and there. Also: "Alright, alright, alright."

    1. Ohh, good one. I also find myself saying "you mean that's the guy?" a lot, although I don't think that's culturally popular.

I think this discussion might be more robust today because it seems like the type of thing a good night's sleep to think about will make people think of them. Another one that I use a good deal that I can't believe I didn't think of considering what I went to see on Sunday is "just.... walk A-way."

                    1. (very) vaguely apropos, my daughter last night mentioned a more than passing interest at possibly joining a sorority or co-ed fraternity at Faber College after she gets there. And then mentioned the "Tri-Delts."

I immediately launched into "Delta, Delta, Delta, Can I help ya, help ya, help ya?"

So, a two-fer. SNL AND Animal House.

      1. Heh, that actually would have been a good response to my bus story since there was some sort of malfunction when trying to leave the bus terminal. It got resolved and we're on our way, but hearing the bus driver shut the bus down a couple of times was nerve wracking.

  1. I will be leaving bright and early tomorrow morning to go to United Methodist Annual Conference in the fine city of Fargo, North Dakota, where I'll be the rest of the week. The posting schedule may be somewhat disrupted, but I'll do what I can.

  2. So, Burnsville cops. I feel safer already, knowing that they are so quick to combat terrorism, even when off-duty and drinking beer on the streets.

          1. I'll keep to myself the major milestone I reached today (twice!) in my recovery process. :/

If anyone needs me to comment for them one way or another on any topic, just let me know - I am more than happy to use Percocet as a blame for anything I post here. Air Supply rocks!

      1. So, aprops of useless updates. Is there an easy way to jump from the top of a page to the bottom? On mobile, it is a PITA when the discussion gets long.

        1. Click the comments icon (the speech bubble) and that will take you to the sidebar location of recent comments. On mobile, that comes after the comments and it's a short way to the actual bottom of the page.

      1. If you want 2 separate ones, I'll do one since I was rained out. I can do the afternoon game since that's the one that was added.

        1. This gets my vote. One game log will have more LTEs and that will spawn even more LTEs. 528, here we come!

  3. I just got on a bus to O'Hare and it has leather seats with more leg room than my living room, "hard wood" floors and a kitchen in the back. My flight is going to su-huck.

    1. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

      1. I do love that yesterday's discussion has made stuff like this pop up like wildfire today. I've been chuckling all day.

    1. He's still going to be in there for almost a year. If he resigned last week, he would have been out immediately. I don't understand why they can't just have the other guy running be the president now.

      1. From the article:

Blatter, "I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organisation. That election is over but FIFA's challenges are not."

Domenico Scala, [the chairman of FIFA's Audit and Compliance Committee] gave a statement immediately after Blatter in which he praised a decision that was "difficult and courageous in the current circumstances. This is the most responsible way to ensure an orderly transition," Scala said.
He also said FIFA's laws only permit the election of the president at a FIFA Congress, but both he and Blatter said waiting until next May would be too long to wait.

"The next ordinary FIFA Congress will take place on May 13, 2016, in Mexico City. This would create unnecessary delay and I will urge the executive committee to organise an extraordinary congress for the election of my successor at the earliest opportunity," Blatter said. "This will need to be done in line with FIFA's statutes and we must allow enough time for the best candidates to present themselves and to campaign."

        1. This is the most responsible way to ensure an orderly transition,"

Translation: just imagine the really criminal ways we could have handled this.

          1. Translation: we've got enough documents to shred that it's going to take us a year.

            1. Can you imagine the gas bill if they tried to incinerate all the incriminating documents?

    2. I hadn't seen that yet. I'm semi-optimistic, but unless the new president's first act is to release the entire Garcia Report it's just gonna be more of the same.

That said, I will go ahead and watch the Women's World Cup this month. An act of good faith, if you will. Who's gonna want gamelogs for the WNT games?

  4. I was just reminded that the Twins lost their 2nd round pick as a result of signing Santana.

  5. I had to take I94 today across Minneapolis to Golden Valley to deliver some work paperwork the roommate forgot this morning. On my way over there, I got my first view of the Vikings' new digs. Man, what a monstrosity. Can't say as I like it.

    1. Yeah, Linds and I took a circle around it when we were in the Cities a couple of months ago. I'm really not a fan. Not that the marshmallow was a nice looking building, but the new Vikings stadium is just a huge eyesore.

  6. When you've been in the pressure cooker that is Ames, IA, coaching the Bulls will be like a reprieve. Just ask Tim Floyd.

    1. Plan for success:

      1. Move from Iowa State to the Bulls
      2. ??
      3. PROFIT in El Paso!

    2. on the bright side for the Mayor, at least Jerry Krause hasn't completely dismantled a championship-contending roster right before hiring him.

    3. It will be easy. Just find a bunch of transfers from other schools and have a better roster than your opponents. How hard can it be?

    4. Well, what do you expect him to say? If he's not confident, he shouldn't be taking the job.

  7. Both my and the roommate's bikes are fully aired and tuned and ready to ride.

    yickit, weekend after next?

    1. That's MS150 weekend, otherwise I would join you. That reminds me, I should post a link for donations one of these days.

Last Saturday, I took a leisurely trip around the Grand Rounds. We're blessed to have so many trials so accessible.

      1. Well as a litigator, you'd probably have a lot of trials, and most are open to the public, so... yes?

        1. Saw this on the sidebar and I could not figure out where it would have appropriately nested ... It's a stretch, maybe half-a-WGOMbuck?

          1. As someone who always writes "statute" when he means to write "statue" I had to take this opportunity to point out another law-brained misspelling.

  8. The Twins being good has not stop the onslaught of dumb NFL news clogging up my twitter machine.
