FMD: Summer Tunes

If someone wants to curate a WGOM Summer Mix this year, please do. I don't think I'd be into it.
Last year's rules were:
Nominate 3 songs by whatever rule you want. Your #1 goes on the mix, even if it's an awful song about winter. Curator picks and chooses from the other nominees for whatever reason he or she wants, and can maybe add a few (like if a WGOM-faved album comes out after most noms are in). Put your three nominations in a spoiler so others can make their nominations free of bias.

Those were my rules. If a curator steps forward, s/he should decide this year's rules at that time. Don't nominate songs until a curator steps forward.

Them: "It couldn’t be our fault we never said anything political"
Her: "Sure you worked late some nights"
Him: "I always thought you could have breast-fed him longer than you did"
Them: "But we let him in"
Her: "Not enough but I let him in"
Them: "Overall, I think we did a good job"

    B. This is my primary reference to this song, not the original or Jakob Dylan cover. So when it was quoted in "Moulan Rouge", I laughed. Because it sounds like they'll never be heroes in this version, not even for one day.

    B. He should have remixed Johnny Cash at least once for this compilation.

      1. It's uh, "Aphexy." I knew most of the remixes from before, when I downloaded mp3s from direct-link pirate URLs and copied them to cassette tapes.

There's a few weird remixes like the Glass remix, but they don't start from a memorable place like "Heroes" (unless you were so into Japanese Trip-hop that "Nobukazu Takemura" means something to you - it did to me but that's because I followed backwards from this remix).
There's also the non-remix of NIN that sounds has computer farts as a rhythmic element. The other non-remix is probably a highlight.
He turned a hip-pop song by Fanta 4 into something dark like Einst¨rzende Neubauten as played by Mike Paradinas.
He turned Saint Etienne into a long pulsing thing that's almost like Seefeel, grabbing just enough of Sarah Cracknell to make you think it could be her.
Seefeel is just more angular, less shoegaze.

Much of the other, earlier stuff sounds a lot like the era and scene it came from. If you liked the Warp Artificial Intelligence compilations, you'll find lots to love, but if not, it's got the "dated" vibe that the first Autechre album has, too.

Don't take my word for it, you can do some needle-drops...

*Just under two years since their last appearance on a FMD list.
Two high pantheon Zeppelin songs, can't argue with that.
Two high pantheon James Taylor songs, can't argue with that.

    1. I think you are trolling me by using the words high pantheon and James Taylor in the same sentence. I will write an angry 500-word counter argument and then quietly delete it from my screen.

      1. Only slightly trolling (I've always enjoyed JT). I know he's not your favorite but would be happy to read a 500-word counter argument ... would be happier to read another one of these on an artist of your choosing (I miss those things).

        1. I have very strong feelings of dislike for James Taylor as well. We're a club, not a gang.

      1. h/t to ... well, you actually ... I wouldn't bother except I know you have fun with it.

No songs that last year's curator rejected out of hand. (Can re-use ones that were some of the last ones cut.)
