Minor Details: Games of June 7

A ninth-inning comeback carries the Red Wings.  Adam Brett Walker II goes deep for the XV's time and Alex Wimmers pitches seven shutout innings in a Lookout rout.  Not much offense for the Kernels.

ROCHESTER 4, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Jose Martinez was 1-for-2 with a double and a run.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Eric Farris was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Lester Oliveros pitched four innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Alex Meyer pitched three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.  Caleb Thielbar pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Rob Refsnyder was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and two RBIs.  Mason Williams was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  Jose De Paula pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  It was 1-1 through seven.  Eighth-inning homers by Refsnyder and Austin Romine put the RailRiders up 3-1.  The Red Wings scored once in the eighth to make it 3-2.  In the ninth, two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out.  Oswaldo Arcia hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score and an error on the throw home allowed the winning run to score.

Of note:  Argenis Diaz was 0-for-3.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Arcia was 0-for-3 with an RBI.

CHATTANOOGA 13, JACKSON 0 IN JACKSON

Batting stars:  Jorge Polanco was 3-for-5 with three doubles, scoring three times and driving in one.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in two.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-5 with a home run (his fifteenth) scoring twice and driving in three.

Pitching stars:  Alex Wimmers pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Madison Boer pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.  D. J. Johnson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Smith was 2-for-4.  Dario Pizzano was 1-for-3 with a walk.

The game:  The first three Lookout batters got hits, leading to a four-run first.  Carlos Paulino had a two-run triple in a three-run third and the rout was on.  The Generals did not get a man past second base.

Of note:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-5 with a run.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.

FORT MYERS MIRACLE

WEST MICHIGAN 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN WEST MICHIGAN

Batting star:  Brett Doe was 2-for-4.

Pitching star:  Luke Bard pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Joey Pankake was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Zach Shepherd was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Spencer Turnbull struck out six in six innings, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and three walks.

The game:  A triple and four singles led to three Whitecaps runs in the first inning.  A walk, an error, and an Edgar Corcino single cut the lead to 3-2 in the third.  A single, an error, and a passed ball made it 4-2 in the fourth.  The Kernels put two on in the seventh and the ninth but did not score again.  The Whitecaps added two runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Tanner English was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 with a run.  Corcino was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Max Murphy was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Sam Gibbons pitched four innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
