Minor Details: Games of June 13

The Red Wings' tailspin continues.  An excellent game for Alex Wimmers.  Not much hitting for the Miracle.  Zach Tillery leads the Kernels to a win.  Emmanuel Morel stays hot for the DSL Twins.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 5, ROCHESTER 1 IN SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  James Beresford was 2-for-4.  Jose Martinez was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Rob Refsnyder was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fifth) and a walk.  Ali Castillo was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Ivan Nova pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Rodriguez homered in the fourth to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead.  It didn't even last through the fourth inning, as Refsnyder hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to put the RailRiders up 2-1.  Three singles and a sacrifice fly plated two more for the RailRiders in the fifth to make it 4-1.  The only Red Wings threat after that came in the eighth, when they put men on first and second with two out.

Of note:  Danny Santana was 1-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-4.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-4.  Jason Wheeler pitched an eight-inning complete game, giving up five runs (four earned) on eleven hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

CHATTANOOGA 4, BIRMINGHAM 0 IN BIRMINGHAM

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his seventeenth.  Niko Goodrum made his AA debut and was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Alex Wimmers struck out nine in 7.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Zach Jones pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Christian Marrero was 2-for-4.  Mark Blackmar pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  The Lookouts scored single runs in the third and sixth and Walker II hit a two-run homer in the eighth.  The only Barons threat came in the eighth, when a two-out infield single put men on first and third.  The Barons had only three hits, all singles.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-4 with a run.  Max Kepler was 0-for-2 with two walks.

BRADENTON 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Zach Granite was 1-for-3 with two walks.  Marcus Knecht was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Tanner Vavra was 1-for-3 with two runs.

Pitching stars:  D. J. Johnson struck out two in two perfect innings.  Brian Gilbert retired all four batters he faced, two by strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Harold Ramirez was 2-for-2 with two walks.  Cody Dickson struck out six in 6.2  innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks.

The game:  Each team scored once in the third.  It was still 1-1 through five.  In the sixth, Wyatt Mathisen delivered a two-out two-run single that gave the Marauders a 3-1 advantage.  The Miracle got one back in the seventh but left the bases loaded.  They did not get a man past first after that.

Of note:  Bryan Haar was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Aaron Slegers struck out five in 5.2 innings but gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, LANSING 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Brian Navaretto was 2-for-3 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Zach Tillery pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Miles Nordgren pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Rowdy Tellez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jesus Tinoco struck out ten in seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks.

The game:  The Kernels opened the game with a triple, a single, a double, and a single, scoring three runs before anyone was out.  That was all they would get, but it was all they needed.  The Lugnuts did not get a hit until the fourth and did not get a man past first base until the sixth.  They scored their lone run in the ninth on two walks and an error.

Of note:  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Zack Larson was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Brett Doe was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Max Murphy was 0-for-4.

DSL ORIOLES2 8, DSL TWINS 4 AT ORIOLES2

Batting stars:  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Darling Cuesto was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Edgar Herrera was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

Pitching star:  Andriu Marin pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Victor Grasso was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Antonio Morillo was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Julin Jimenez struck out four in three shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

The game:  The Twins led 2-1 after three, but the Orioles2 took the lead in the fourth when a double, a single, a walk, and two hit batsmen produced two runs.  It was 4-2 Orioles2 after six and a four-run seventh put the game out of reach.  Grasso had a two-run double in the inning.

Of note:  Jorge Munoz was 0-for-3.  Jean Carlos Arias was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-1 with two walks and a run.  Juan Herrera pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

  1. I was just looking up AB Walker's stats and holy cows 16 walks to 90 strikeouts 241 plate appearances. But he has the awesome slash line of .258/.311/.575/.886
