Two shows in the Twin Cities coming up in the next eight days:

I should probably go to one or both of those.

By the way, a belated acknowledgement to DK's Best of 2014 music list. I've picked up a couple of albums in the last month or so (Hospitality - Trouble and Wye Oak - Shriek and one other one that I can't think of...) that, upon review, I found he had listed back in January as worth checking out.
Didn't know Wye Oak had a new one out. Any good?
It came out last year, it is ... different. Much less guitar, much more of a electronic/synthesizer feel. I would say I like Civilian and The Knot better, but I am still getting used to this one.
Happy to be of service.

T. Arvo Pärt* “Magnificat (Mix 11)” Magnificat: AMR Remixes
*Notes:
3. Nice medley pairing there, a song about impotence and a song about incest. One of the little blue pills should use the first song's euphemism in an ad campaign. "Got no courage in ye? Ask your doctor about Vialis."
4. of Mouse on Mars.
6. Performed by Theatre of Voices under the direction of Paul Hillier, featuring Christopher Bowers-Broadbent on Organ.
T. Performed by Theatre of Voices under the direction of Paul Hillier.
Regarding b & c: I'm training my ears for what birds I may hear in Alaska at the end of the month.
Regarding #10. Here's a link to a different version of the remix that I created. The differences in mixes 1-11 is in the amount of distortion and how much of the original can be heard coming through. I think they get progressively further from the source material, so 11 is just sort of a drone that sounds sortof like "Magnificat", and I stopped there. Similar to how I made the sonically dissimilar "Mbeer" from a Homer Simpson sample (but then, I just concatenated all of the parts I made).
As is probably the case for many people, the only song I know off Labcabincalifornia is "Passin' Me By," but it's still a gem.
*Not on Labcabincalifornia.
As is probably the case for many people, the only song I know
off Labcabincaliforniais "Passin' Me By," but it's still a gem.Bizarreride II the Pharcyde is a better album front to back than Labcabin, but Labcabin has highlights that are up there.
1. Jay Dee (J Dilla)'s beats on about half of the album. I think this was his first major production.
2. The rapping on "Runnin'" and "Drop". I don't care if you listen to the rest of the album, go check those two. (Both Jay Dee tracks, as well.)
New album from local band Bad Bad Hats is streaming at Interview Magazine.
I haven't listened yet, but in a minute or two...
I dig them, they've shared bills with Emot, We Are the Willows, and Dolfish
Dude, LL's tour schedule makes no sense at all. It looks like a drunk weaving through the country (drunk, country, huh, I guess it fits). Seriously, in 2 months, she's coming to Illinois 3 times, with weeks in between the dates, and none of those shows are anywhere near Chicago.
No sense? Seems pretty logical to me.
It helps if you realize she's basing tour dates around bigger gigs: festivals & slots opening for a bigger act, and then driving home to OH at gaps in the tour.
Could also be that she, like Will Oldham and the White Stripes, prefers playing smaller cities to the big ones.
This weekend: Festival in MA tomorrow, NJ on the way out and NH on the way home.
Next weekend Friday starts a small Upper Midwest tour: WI, MN, ND, NE, IA, with stops in IL on the way out and back home to OH.
(One night off, between ND and NE... not playing a Weds night in the middle of nine nights on the road).
Except she only gets to stay home one night, because she's got three shows opening for Iron & Wine in western PA/NY.
Then a Saturday festival in VT with shows in northern NY and MA on either side.
Break tour, come home.
Four weeks later, a one-off show at home in OH (Sunday).
Two weeks later, weekend tour Thu-Sat of Mid-Atlantic.
The next week, she's got that Trampled By Turtles festival in Shakopee, so she plays DeKalb, IL and Green Bay on the way out.
I'll be at the Shakopee festival, but could maybe swing the July 19th show .... maybe.
Festivals aren't my scene. I really got to swing this one.

Weird how 5 of these could have been on my list. I think that's the highest number I've ever noticed.
Only 8 for me. That's kind of low.
2 for me.
2 for me as well, although I do like that Savages album.
Also, 2 is the most in common with my iPod of any list so far this week.
6 are the most in common on mine - from your list.
For comparison, Phil has the next-highest number this week: Zero
I... My list has "Time To Pretend", "Spirit In The Sky" "Witchcraft" "New Slang" and "Birdhouse In Your Soul" on it. How can you only have ever had 2 of those?!?
Only one of those. MGMT. The next two, not my scene. The last two preceded my mp3ing days. Birdhouse would be my favorite on your list.
I'd had the Vampy Weeks on my iPod when I was trying to understand what P4k thought of the album.
Pssst....Regina....I have 5 in common with Pepper as well.
That "song" has come up twice when shuffling this week. I shuffle over 7,000 songs.
It's definitely not come up for me in a very long time.
This is fascinating. Looks like the most I have in common is 4 . . . with hj, shockingly. Next is Scot with 2.
1. “Time To Pretend” – MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
2. “Spirit In The Sky” – Norman Greenbaum - Spirit In The Sky
3. “Hospital Song” – Francolin - Won’t Let You Down
4. “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” – The Spin Doctors - Pocketful Of Kryptonite

7. “Witchcraft” – Frank Sinatra
8. “New Slang” – The Shins - Oh, Inverted World
9. “Stand By Me” – Ben E. King
10. “Dog Days Are Over” – Florence + The Machine - Lungs
B: “Birdhouse In Your Soul” – They Might Be Giants - Flood
What, couldn't find "Two Princes" to dig up? 😉
I... have no idea why you hate my lists so...
*checks hj's recent history of ragging on phil*
hmm, i count 2.5 instances, and 2 of those were about the spin doctors. i stand by it, though it wasn't malicious. don't think i've reached freealonzo levels of shit talking yet.
aw, crap, that reminds me, i never got that summer mix together, did i?
There's a reason I try not to engage Free on music. Heck, there's a reason I took a long break from posting my lists at all. So maybe it's just 2.5 instances, but they've come in response to about 2.5 lists. I'm probably just being too sensitive.
The upside is, I'm pretty sure I know what my theme will be for my guest DJ slot now.
This?
Also, Free's got a particular aversion to Depeche Mode.
On those occasions when I received free's Rad List designation, I always figured it was time to shake up my iTunes Library. 😉
(BTW, is July my Guest DJ Month? I forgot.)
haven't checked your email lately, eh?
Derp.
I've never recieved the "Rad List" honor. I also rarely post my lists anymore.
I dug up two Princes:
FTW.
I haven't listened to a lot of Vampire Weekend, but I love that track. I feel it in my bones...
I don't know that I've listened to a lot, but sometimes they just feel so right. "Diane Young" is probably my favorite track of theirs.
Listening to some of Billboard's "Song of the Summer" chart. Because I'm square and should be less so.
So, there's "Uptown Funk!" by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars. It's basically "Walk the Dinosaur" crossed with "Oops Up Side Your Head".
It's not a bad song, just wondering 1. why listen to this instead of those? Was (not Was) sings about dinosaurs. and 2. Is this what we have for "new" music?
I thought that one recentish Bruno song was a blatant ripoff of The Police, but then I saw Sting come up to play it with him at the... Grammy's? Super Bowl? Whatever. I guess he was okay with it.
Songwriter-credit residuals!
