There are a LOT of motorcycles passing through town today.
I'm sure I just missed it, but what is the significance of the candle on the post images on the front page?

Hot Rod Who?
ahh. I only associated him with the "Rowdy Roddy" label. Never seen that flick.
I strongly recommend you rectify that. The fight scene between Piper and Keith David is one of the greatest things ever put to film. Also, it holds up surprisingly well despite some pacing issues and its warning of the dangers of consumerism are still relevant (if heavy handed).
so, Danny Santana demoted again. Is this the end of the line for him? He's been a .300 hitter at every level, but just couldn't seem to find it this year with the big club. On the bright side, still only 24.
Say what? He'd never been a .300 hitter until this year at Rochester (which might not last). In the minors, he had never done anything really close to what he did last year. He'll get plenty of chances considering what he did last year. Look at Hicks and the chances he's gotten when he had never done anything at this level till this year. Plouffe also got a number of chances before figuring it out. The Twins are a long ways from giving up on him. Remember Alexi Casilla?
ack. Yea. My bad. Somehow I misread the OBP column as the BA column.
Guess I needed more coffee.
He did, however, hit .286 at Ft Myers in 2012 and .297 at New Britain in 2013, both full seasons. I think I mixed and matched those two solid BA years with some OBP years before and after to create an imagined track record.
His career slash line in the Minors is 274/317/394. That's pretty close to being good enough to play SS for a Major League team for several years if the glove is good.
I'm curious as to what we think about trading Chih-Wei Hu. Seems like the dude has a ton of potential, judging only by his age and rapid advancement and performance.
Gleeman says "There's no chance of Hu turning into a top-of-the-rotation starter and non-elite Single-A pitching prospects have a very high attrition rate, but he's a young pitcher who currently ranked among the Twins' top 12-15 prospects and would probably crack the top 10 in a lot of farm systems. You can view Hu as a solid prospect or as a lottery ticket with good but not great payoff potential...."
I guess that sounds about right.
I'm okay with it. My rationale is that if Hu ends up an average relief pitcher in the major leagues, that would be a success. Plus to get a better reliever would have cost more minor league talent, and I definitely overvalue Twins prospects, so that would be hard to swallow.
This is about where I am as well, especially considering they didn't give up MLB-ready talent this time. Plus, Jepsen is young enough that I assume he'll be around next year when the team will almost certainly be better and a contender. Its not like they gave up Berrios or Kepler, or something.
Back in my younger days, I was able to function normally when I'd say up all night and only get 3 hours sleep.
Not anymore. I'm a wreck. hahaha
Last week, we had a couple of planned power outages during the day because Edison had to do some maintenance work on the grid. I work at home, so I had to alter my schedule to work when we had power. The second day for this was on Thursday. I worked all Thursday night and to get my sleep schedule back to normal, I just stayed up and went to bed early Friday night. Yeah, I'm not doing that again.
So with only one infielder on the bench (whichever of the Eduardo's not starting at SS) does that mean Rosario is backing up second base now?
No, it means whichever Eduardo will be starting in CF. Oh, wait, I'm having a Gardy flashback.
I would not be upset if a Polanco was on the big squad and no Eduardo's were.
It's not like he's played his way off the team
A sirloin burger with smoked cheddar, sauteed mushrooms, mayo, and hoisin is f'in amazing.
...
I smoked two copper river salmon filets, a raft of chicken thighs and a mess of boudin for dinner, and made a killer elote dip (roasted corn, creama, hot peppers , hot sauce, and a bit of lime baked to bubbling and served with pork rinds corn chips). Yeah, today was a good day.
Hot Rod was the wrestling bad guy of my youth. Overall I think he was pretty entertaining, but man he was involved in some racist storylines.
Vin Scully is awesome and all, but couldn't they have found a broadcaster associated with the Twins to do the narration about the 1965 World Series?
I dunno. Scully saw it. Aren't all the Twins broadcasters from back then dead?
I don't think it had to be a broadcaster who was there. Gordo would've done a fine job with the narration. So would Dick Bremer for that matter--I suspect he saw it, too, or at least listened on the radio. Nothing against Scully--I just think it would've been more appropriate to use someone associated with the Twins. But it's not a big deal.
