Minor Details: Games of August 5

One bad inning spoils Taylor Rogers' day.  The Miracle loses it in the ninth.  A rough day for Felix Jorge.  A steal of home wins it for the GCL Twins.  Walks and errors cost the DSL Twins.

GWINNETT 4, ROCHESTER 3 IN GWININETT

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a triple and two doubles, scoring twice.  Chris Herrmann was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Xavier Avery was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching star:  Mark Hamburger pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Mycal Jones was 2-for-3 with a run.  Eric Young, Jr. was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Luis Mateo was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The game:  The Red Wings scored two in the first and Rodriguez tripled and scored in the fifth to make it 3-0.  In the bottom of the fifth, however, the Braves put together five singles and two sacrifices to score all four of their runs.  After the Rodriguez triple, the next twelve Red Wings were retired before Herrmann had a leadoff single in the ninth.  He did not advance past first base.

Of note:  Danny Santana was 0-for-4 with a walk.  James Beresford was 0-for-4 with a run.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-3 with two RBIs.  Taylor Rogers pitched well other than in the fifth inning, but gave up four runs on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

CHATTANOOGA AT JACKSON

Rained out.

ST. LUCIE 7, FORT MYERS 4 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Aderlin Mejia was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-5 with a run.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Trevor Hildenberger struck out five in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Tyler Jay pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Matt Oberste was 1-for-3 with a triple and two walks, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jeff McNeil was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Dominic Smith was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fifth, when Oberste tripled in two and later scored to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  The Miracle came back in the sixth, as Mejia had a two-run triple in a four-run inning that put Fort Myers up 4-3.  It looked like that might hold up, as it was still 4-3 through eight.  In the ninth, though, two walks and McNeil's RBI single tied the score.  A walk loaded the bases, Smith's single brought home the go-ahead run, and a two-run wild pitch-plus-error put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Stephen Gonsalves pitched 4.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

DAYTON 8, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Rafael P. Valera was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Cory Thompson was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his second and third) and a walk, driving in four.  Avain Rachal was 4-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two RBIs.  Chad Tromp was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Homers by Rachal and Thompson highlighted a five-run second that put the Dragons in control of the game.  In the fourth, Gordon had a two-run triple and later scored to cut the lead to 6-3, but that was as much as the Kernels could do.  The Dragons added single runs in the eighth and ninth.

Of note:  Tanner English was 1-for-4 with a run.  Zack Larson was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Felix Jorge pitched six innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

ELIZABETHTON TWINS

No game scheduled.

GCL TWINS 2, GCL ORIOLES 1 AT ORIOLES (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Robert Molina was 3-for-4 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Kolton Kendrick was 1-for-4 with a double and two walks.  Luis Arraez was 2-for-6 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Jovani Moran struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.  Moises Gomez pitched three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Matz Schutte pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Carlos Diaz was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Gerrion Grim was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Kory Groves struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  Two singles and an error put the Twins on top 1-0 in the second.  Grim's RBI single tied it in the fifth.  And that was it until the twelfth.  The Twins had chances, notably leaving the bases loaded in the third and tenth.  The first two Twins in the twelfth went out.  A walk, a wild pitch, and an intentional walk put men on first and second.  Stolen bases put men on second and third and a double steal of third and home by Molina and Jorge Andrade, respectively, scored the go-ahead run.  The Orioles went down in order in the bottom of the twelfth.

Of note:  Blake Schmit was 2-for-6 with a double.  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-6.

DSL MARINERS1 4, DSL TWINS 1 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Darling Cuesto was 2-for-3.

Pitching stars:  Huascar Ynoa struck out four in four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks.  Andriu Marin struck out four in three innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Ismerling Mota was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jose Sandoval was 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Wladimir Marruffo pitched seven innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  The Mariners1 scored without a hit in the first and scored on three singles in the second, taking a 2-0 lead.  Two singles and an error plated the only Twins run in the third.  An error scored a run for the Mariners1 in the fifth and Mota doubled one home in the ninth.

Of note:  Antonio Tovar was 0-for-4.  Junior Amarante was 0-for-4.
