  1. I have an extra ticket for the game tonight if anyone wants it. I'll be down there and can hand it to you a little after 630. I must warn you: of you choose to buy me, I'll have my scorebook with me.

  2. LeBron, doing good things:

Thursday was a big day for the LeBron James Family Foundation. He announced that he and the University of Akron will sponsor full scholarships for the 1,100 children currently in his I Promise program in Akron, Ohio.

James' has been sponsoring this program for five years and the children range from the third to the seventh grades. If they complete the program and meet attendance and grade requirements, their tuition will be covered by James' foundation and the university starting in 2021, when the current seventh graders in the program graduate high school. A year's tuition at the University of Akron is currently about $9,500.

As part of the announcement, the university renamed its College of Education after James' foundation.

"I think it's probably one of the best things I've ever been apart of," James said. "This is very special to me. As a kid growing up in the inner city and as an African American kid, you don't really think past high school because it's not possible or your family can't support you. For us to be able to do something like this ... it means so much."

  3. I heard about Facebook's new Facebook Lite app the other day, which is a stripped down version for less-powerful phones, generally in developing countries. As my phone has very little storage, having a 90MB FB app and 40 MB Messenger app sucked. So I thought I'd try Lite (3ish MB). Turns out it's only available in the App Store for users in India. So I found the APK and installed it manually.

It's a bit basic and a bit slow, as it's designed for the 2G speeds found in the poorer parts of the world. But messaging is integrated back into the app and it takes up less than 5% of the space on my phone the other apps took.

    1. I deleted the Facebook app because it's such a hog and because I was annoyed that I couldn't read the random message someone would send me. Instead I bookmarked my custom list/feed and just use Facebook via my phone's browser. Now I've freed all the space that stupid app was taking up and I can read messages without installing another piece of bloatware. On a four-year-old 16GB iPhone 4S it makes a difference.

Honestly, I'd rather not be on Facebook at all.

The defenders in this clip react in the only possible way, which is complete "Well...shit"

      1. Heh, at first glance, I thought, what's DP talking about? He made a nifty little kick there. Pretty straightforward.

After all the replays though, I thought, wait, I'm not entirely sure what happened.

          1. A one-footed scorpion kick is the closest I get to describing it, the most famous of which is from Colombian keeper Rene Higuita

            1. Risky move for a man from a country where they've been known to kill people who lose games.
              (That was Columbia, right?)

              1. If you haven't seen the 30 for 30 "Two Escobars" I highly recommend it. It can explain everything much better than I could.

  5. I got a temporary crown last friday, scheduled to get the permanent next friday. This week, it's become painfully obvious that I will need a root canal on that tooth too. Very painfully.

Started anti-biotics a few days ago. No results, pain continues to grow. Have been taking OTC pain meds with much frequency the last couple days. Today, they seem largely ineffective. I'll hopefully be able to pick up a prescription for something stronger soon (won't be today... possibly tomorrow.).

I've had very bad needs-a-root canal pain before, but this is something special and insane. How did humans deal with this kind of medical issue before modern medicine? I do not know if I will make it to next Friday.

    1. Much like child birth, I have no frame way to feel other's pain with respect to dental issues. (never had so much as a cavity... Err, and braces). In other words, I'm saying best of luck toughing that one out in a jerky way.
