Minor Details: Games of August 17

The Red Wings win a tight one.  Manuel Guzman and Andro Cutura lead the E-Twins.  Not much good news from the GCL.  Fredderi Soto again pitches well for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 4, BUFFALO 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Xavier Avery was 1-for-3 with a home run, his sixth.  Jose Martinez was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.

Pitching stars:  Taylor Rogers pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on ten hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Alex Hassan was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Jonathan Diaz was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

The game:  Avery homered in the second to put the Red Wings on top 1-0, but the Bisons tied it in the third and went up 3-1 in the fourth.  Rodriguez delivered a two-run single in the fifth to tie it 3-3 and Martinez homered in the sixth to make it 4-3 Red Wings.  The Bisons did not get a man past first after that.

Of note:  James Beresford was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-4.

ELIZABETHTON 6, DANVILLE 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Manuel Guzman was 4-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  A. J. Murray was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Travis Blankenhorn was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Andro Cutura pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Anthony Mciver struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Alex Robinson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Juan Yepez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Grayson Jones pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Leading 1-0 after three, the Twins scored three in the fourth to take control of the game.  Guzman drove in two of the three with a two-run single.  The Twins added two more in the seventh.  The Braves did not get a man past second base.

Of note:  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Daniel Kihle was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-3 with a walk.

GCL ORIOLES 7, GCL TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Blake Schmit was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Robert Molina was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Bryant Hayman was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching star:  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Mountcastle was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Frank Crinella was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Kirvin Moesquit was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

The game:  Each team scored two in the first.  Moesquit delivered a two-run single in the second to put the Orioles up 4-2.  The Twins got one back in the fifth, but the Orioles scored two more in the sixth on a pair of sacrifice flies to go ahead 6-3.  The last ten Twins were retired.

Of note:  Christian Cavaness was 2-for-4.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Aaron Whitefield made his debut, going 0-for-3.  Jovani Moran pitched three innings, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

DSL ORIOLES2 3, DSL TWINS 1 AT ORIOLES2

Batting stars:  Oliver Tejada was 3-for-4.  Gorge Munoz was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Junior Amarante was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.

Pitching stars:  Huascar Ynoa pitched five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Fredderi Soto struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Ivan Mora was 3-for-4 with a double.  Nichel Alcantara pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Fernando Escarra pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Each team scored once in the fourth.  A pair of errors led to two Orioles2 runs in the fifth.  And that was it for scoring.  After their run in the fourth, the Twins' biggest threat was in the eighth, when they got a pair of walks, but a caught stealing took them out of the inning.

Of note:  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-3.  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-4.
