Minor Details: Games of September 10

Max Kepler comes through with a walkoff single for the Lookouts.  Chris Paul's two-run single gives the Kernels a sweep in extra-innings.

CHATTANOOGA 4, MONTGOMERY 3 IN CHATTANOOGA--FIRST ROUND, GAME ONE

Batting stars:  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Heiker Meneses was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  D. J. Baxendale pitched 7.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts.  Nick Burdi struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Jaime Schultz pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts.  Patrick Leonard was 1-for-4 with a home run.  Jake Bauers was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  The Biscuits scored two in the second to go ahead 2-0.  They still led 3-1 through six.  An error cut the lead to 3-2 after seven but it stayed there until the ninth.  The first two batters of the bottom of the ninth struck out, but Shannon Wilkerson and Polanco walked, a wild pitch sent them to second and third, and Kepler singled to right to score both of them and give the Lookouts the victory.

Of note:  Wilkerson was 0-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Travis Harrison was 0-for-3 with a walk.  D. J. Hicks was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, QUAD CITIES 1 IN QUAD CITIES (11 INNINGS)--FIRST ROUND, GAME 2

Batting stars:  Chris Paul was 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs.  T. J. White was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run.

Pitching stars:  Sam Gibbons pitched eight innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Yorman Landa struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Nick Anderson pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Brock Dykxhoorn struck out six in 6.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and two walks.  Eric Peterson retired all four men he faced, striking out two.  Jason Martin was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.

The game:  Each team scored a run in the fourth.  It stayed 1-1 until the eleventh, when a walk and an error put men on second and third and Paul delivered a two-run single.  The River Bandits got only one hit in the last six innings.

Of note:  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-5.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-5.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-5 with a run.
