Remember the 90's? In the 90's I was, with some frequency, gifted CD's as Christmas presents.
The best one I ever got was TMBG's Flood, which helped me start to discover music that had been made in the same decade I was living in.
The worst one I ever got was Shania Twain's Come On Over, which... was not what I was listening to at the time. It wasn't as offensive as it sounds in retrospect, but it wasn't particularly good either.
So what's the best musical gift you were ever given? And the worst?
Merry Christmas all!
Worst: Mannheim Steamroller "Christmas". Dear Godmother, do you know nothing about me and want to emphasize that fact?
Best: "Singles " OST and Temple of the Dog S/T. I aske d for them, but Mom and Dad delivered.
I don't usually ask for anything musical, so I can't think of any "best", but my parents tend to pick up some CD off a rotating display that they think I'd like (wrong.) such as The Three Tenors, Handel's Messiah (seriously? like I wouldn't already have that?), or some other such. I know enough not to blindly buy something musical for my daughter, I wish they'd learn not to do the same. I got a nice book this year from them, though, so things are looking up.
About 5 years ago, my wife and kids bought me a Bon Jovi CD. Really? I always make fun of them, never really listen to that type of music, and it's Bon Jovi! First and last time I ever criticized a gift. I laughed out loud and threw it across the room. I thought they were kidding... but no... they were not. I don't receive music anymore.
