  1. Won't have time to get Minor Details done this morning. I hope to get it done this afternoon.

  2. ESPN has some highlights from Gregg Popovich's press conference last night and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I know the reporters have a job to do...but sometimes that job seems to be asking really obvious questions and it's fun to see them get a little pushback at times.

    1. It really has to be tough to ask questions at a press conference that's live on the Internet if not TV. Or at least you know a bunch of cameras are taping it. When I'm asking a coach a question one-on-one after a tough loss or bad news there's times I'll say "I have to ask this so..." something along those lines. Of course, technically I don't "have to" but I know if I don't get the answer to it, my editor is going to ask me why I didn't no matter how obvious the response.

  3. It was a doubleheader day for the boys last night. Junior's game was first, and he was the starting pitcher. He gave up 1 hit and no runs the first two innings with three strikeouts. In the third, he gave up a couple runs thanks to a couple popups that were dropped and a batter reaching on a strikeout because of a passed ball/wild pitch. Junior had a small pitch limit because his team has a doubleheader on Saturday and they need everyone available to pitch, so he was taken out with no outs in the third. Junior grounded out to the catcher in his only at-bat. His Mariners lost 17-4.

Trey's Astros won 13-1. He struck out swinging in his only at-bat.

  4. the sun has been out for only 3 hours since Monday.
its rained 4 of the last 5 days
    I am a grump.

    1. I've gotten in some great walks, saw some good birds, and picked some good mushrooms to boot.
Despite (or because of) the weather. I like the weather a bit rougher: fewer people out and about.
I'm torn by the desire that no one else ever use the park, and my desire that it remains a park.

Two dudes smoking cigarettes last night had a quarter-full plastic grocery bag of morels. I believe the park cops will ticket you for that*, I try to be a lot more discreet (but I miss a lot because of it).
I was happy that they came from the area I got mine in. It means we both got some.

      1. Apparently morels grow really well in part of my backyard, we' haven't been here a year yet but a neighbor is going to stop by to show us the good spots.

And hey, the sun just came out! Time to walk the dog.

        1. A friend and I went morel hunting on Wednesday. First time I'd ever gone. In an hour and half, we found twelve (I, being an untrained eye, only found one of those, growing all by its lonesome). Looking forward to sauteing them up tomorrow.

          1. I took my kids biking in the church parking lot down the street the other day. Found 3 morels growing in a connected dirt/grass lot. First ones I'd ever found (and thanks to AMR on confirming the ID), and they were delicious.

            1. I made the right decision. Best haul since I was a kid.
I'm sure it helped that the morning was so cold so there was hardly anyone out.

      2. AMR, if this part of the Three Rivers Park District (which I believe it is)

          1. I once hit a bunt double in a softball game but it was nothing like that one. I bunted in between the pitcher, first baseman, and second baseman. Amongst the confusion one who should field it and who should cover, I just kept running.

  5. I just saw the recent news about the Professor's old roommate. Must have been a lot of brainpower in that room in Northfield back in the day!
