This is the anniversary of the first All-Star game, in 1933. Congrats, Nunez!

I'll be at today's game!
MORNING GAME ALERT: Chattanooga is hosting Birmingham in a game already in progress.
We're signing a purchase agreement in about 4 hours. I'm kind of crapping my pants right now. I'll get over it.
We're going to see a house this evening - a first for me and for us as a couple.
I'm a little on edge.
Went with Runner daughter to look at a townhouse for sale yesterday; it'd be cheaper than her current rent. I'm sleeping well.
When Mrs. SoCal and I were getting ready to buy our first (and so far only) home, we went to a lot of model homes at new housing projects. We didn't have to deal with a realtor and we could just explore the model homes at our leisure. It helped give us ideas of what we wanted and even decorating ideas for our home.
Homeownership - Enjoy the ride!
YRMV, but I was outside at 6:30 this morning, getting after it with a chainsaw - unblocking the road to our house from a tree that was blown over last night.
Our house in essentially brand new, so the home improving will be left to the outdoors stuff and hoping that the oak tree doesn't give up the ghost...
The one we're looking at is $150K less than the surrounding houses for a reason.
Don't let others tell you otherwise: Mold Remediation is an exciting adventure. Every time a toilet overflows, every time a pipe connection leaks, every time a child showers without pulling the curtain, and every time it rains when windows are left open could be the time for the sequel.
Heh. I remediated mold once. Once.
Yesterday was quite a day for us. We spent most of the day at the VW dealership working out the deal, completing the paperwork and waiting for our e-Golf to be ready. When we picked it out, it still had the protective coverings on it for when it was shipped on the truck, so all that had to be removed and the car washed. It also needed its battery charged. After signing our name about 5,000 times to all the documents, we went to lunch while the car was charging. My wife had some errands to run and the stuff she needed was in our Mazda so she let me drive the e-Golf home. We didn't tell our boys what we were doing today, so I texted them that we had a surprise when we got home before I left. They were excited about it when they saw it. Mrs. SoCal hadn't even gone home yet when a couple reps for a solar company came to our house and talked me into setting up an appointment for that evening to talk to a salesman. And so, yes, the very day that we purchased an electric car, we also signed up to have solar panels put on our roof.
were we going to ignore today's game and no one told me?
I made a quick game log.
Why are people criticizing Kevin Durant for wanting to win a championship? Isn't that the whole point? I thought players would be criticized for taking big money and not worrying about winning. Now, his teammates are too good? It's not winning a ring that matters, but how you win it? That's so stupid. Durant needs to get a ring first before he should start worrying about his legacy. And it's not like he really did Golden State any favors. He still got a max deal. OKC was the only team that could offer more. He hasn't been able to win it in OKC, so why not go to the best team to offer you a max deal?
He's a trader to OKC!!!!!11

You may be confusing "people" with Stephen A. Smith.
Well, he's not the only one, just the loudest one. But somehow, I doubt that Kevin Durant is terribly concerned about what his critics think. And if he gets a ring next year, he'll be even less concerned about them.
Well, he's not the only one, just the loudest one.
That prolly will be on Smith's tombstone.
but I was questioning his humanity.
1) Since when were internet complaints rational?
2) How is this any different from the dozens of times people have been mad with players for taking the $$$ and signing with the Yankees? Is Durant even in the vicinity of the Alex Rodriguez zone?
I think at the root of it, people don't like the way the NBA cap system works to put the players more in control of team construction than teams. In the NFL, you can convince yourself that if your front office is good enough, the team can improve and win a championship. In the NBA, it increasingly seems as though you have to cross your fingers, hope your city is attractive enough to move to, and you have to hope that the best players have friends on your team. Either that, or you hope that your team is terrible enough that they can get a top draft pick and the pick will mature quickly enough that he gets you a championship before he goes to play for another team.
You mention that Durant is still getting a max contract, but the whole pay ceiling is the reason we get the Superfriends teams. Imagine a system where each team can pay one player as much as they like, but their cap hit is some fixed value. In a system like that, you'd have superstars distributed throughout the league and there would arguably be a lot more parity.
For neutrals, another problem is that it just makes the league appear more boring. OKC vs. Golden State was a great playoff series last year. It seems impossible that OKC could push Golden State next year. Instead of two really high quality teams, you're left with a somewhat better GS team (can't really improve much on 73 wins and 1 win from a title) and a much worse OKC team.
Lately I've noticed that the 100+ coke dispensers have lemon flavoring, which makes a diet coke taste like someone melted lemonheads into it.
Lemon in Diet Coke sounds awful.
It was novel, but not something I'll pursue in the future.
90% of the time, when I have a fountain diet coke, I put a bit of lemonade in it first. Lemonoke is tasty.
I'm pretty fond of Diet Coke + Lemon Lime Gatorade when I end up at a convenience store that had both
The wife and kids are out of town tonight, so I'm making ch's Wisconsin Bahn MI. I'm going full Wisconsin, as suggested, and using rutabaga.
ZOMG!
How was it? Braunschweiger or liverwurst?
I could eat bánh mì every week.
I'm really disappointed in myself for not trying Bahn MI until now.
I got braunschweiger because that was all copps had. I also forgot to get Sriracha, so I used red curry paste for the mayo. All in all, it was incredible.
I also washed out down with this, which I'm glad to see is in Madison now.
Red curry paste sounds like a brilliant substitute. Next time I make these I may try some sambal in the mayo.
The pickled rutabaga sounds awesome. That's raising the Wisconsin bar well over the jicama I usually use in place of daikon.
I had one of these the last time I made bánh mì. No complaints.
Bahn mi are awesome. And sambal in mayo is awesome.
Braunschweiger or liverwurst
Is an existential question that people not from the upper Midwest just don't understand.
Much as I love me some bánh mì, I still can't get past the concept of a world where "The wife and kids are out of town...."
Working on a New Belgium Mashup mixed case. Tonight I am having the Fat Wild Ale, a collaboration with Avery. Nice funk. Much better than the Fat Funk Ale with Allagash. Also, Fat Pale Ale with Rheingeist (meh), Fat Hoppy Ale with Firestone Walker ( nice nose), Fat Sour Apple with Hopworks (have not tried it yet) and Fat Tire (boring).
