Pauer!
Santana also not helping his case to be traded.
rethink this
I get the feeling that if someone gets to three runs, they're going to win this game.
That's been essentially true this whole series.
The Twins got to three, so I hope I was right.
I was!
Since this is the start of the "second half", Santana has just essentially finished his first full season with the Twins. Fangraphs says he's been worth $23.3M while the Twins have paid him $13.5M. (He wasn't paid during the suspension). I've heard many call the Santana contract a bad one. Looks pretty good to me.
They've all been bad contracts since 1975.
We knew this team was going to strike out a lot, but man alive do they sometimes make opposing pitchers look like a late-90's Big Unit.
Twins have had 10+ Ks in 3 of previous 4 games, but prior to that, they had gone 11 straight without 10 Ks in a game. I think Park being sent down has a lot to do with that.
In fairness, this is Justin Verlander, and he's back to striking lots of people out this year. Technically, his K/9 rate will decrease today if this game's rate holds true.
You two know where you can put your "facts"
Edit: Verlander's beyond 'back' - he hasn't a K/9 rate this high (9.41) since his career-best year in 2009 (10.09).
believe this is what you were looking for:
Yup
Walking the ninth-place hitter is seldom a good idea.
I think it's safe to say it's never a good idea.
But it worked. Strategy!
Double play! Still not out of the inning, though.
Now we are!
We're out of the inning now!
Dazzle sounded disappointed that Sano didn't level the guy who ran onto the field.
This would seem to be a key batter in the game.
Got him out!
Wiggle wiggle
It would be nice if the Twins could at least threaten to do something on offense.
WE WNAT AN WALKOFF!!1!!!
We're in Detroit. The only way there can be a walkoff is if the Tigers get it.
don't tell me, tell the Strib commenter who posted it
Baseball rules, shmaseball rules .... Pfffttt!
I assume most teams have a bad record when they score three runs or fewer. 1-37 does sound a little extreme, though.
So...we're due!
Not with this club it doesn't.
Feels like 2-36.
Overall record is 254-972 this year for about .200.
So...we're due!
Since 2000, the league record has varied from a low of winning 18.5% in 2000 to a high of 23.1% in 2013. Overall it's been above 20% recently. Not too surprising with teams scoring less over the past several seasons.
That sounds like a really good catch by Rosario.
Everyone's leaving on the fifth. Feels like home!
KEPLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I checked who we had batting LH this inning and spooky'd that
Take it to the Max!
Two outs in the ninth? Close enough to a walk-off!
I was thinking the same thing ?
ROSARIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, there goes the "3 runs or fewer"
Well, our record while scoring fewer than 3 won't change.
But the Tigers qualify so the Twins can push that average down at least.
Holy Hannah!
4 hits today ... 3 of them dongerjacks. Nutso.
Well they are starting a new Era, afterall.
True dat
Rob Antony = s m r t
Butters just entered the game. Let him pitch Yost!
You know what? We're still on track for 103-59!
He's baaacck!
Twins pitching gave up these runs this series: 1, 2, 1
who are these guys and what have they done to the meatball tossers we had before?
Trying to get traded to a contender.
Neil Ramirez down, Buddy Boshers back up.
Whoa -- who needs TR?!
Stat of the Day: Twins have had 4 runs or more on 4 hits or less 4 times in the last 3 seasons and 3 of those occurrences came against the Tigers. The time they did it against another team came May 21 against Toronto. The Twins had 0 runs on 1 hit vs. AJ Happ going into the 8th inning, then scored 5 runs on 3 hits. The big hits were a 2-run double by Santana to tie the game and a 3-run HR by Nunez to put the Twins ahead.
