It's somewhat more palatable to see the Twins bunt when they actually do it successfully.
Escobar with the RBI single!
Rosario with the RBI single!
Dozier with the RBI single!
This is so weird: the field is dry, but it's raining on the upper deck in left field
Maybe the Astros strategy is to not get the Twins out so the game can get rained out.
Sano with the RBI error!
It's raining where I am, too, although not all that much.
I really wish I hadn't left a rain jacket at home
So why not pick up where they left off tomorrow?
They only do that in the postseason or if the game is tied after 5 innings. Not sure why.
Game is official after 5 innings (4.5 if home team ahead). If it's rained out at that point, the game is official. If it's tied (or the home team gave up the lead/tie and hasn't been able to counter), it's resumed. If it's unable to be resumed (and doesn't figure in the standings), I believe it's officially counted as a tie. Anything less than 5 innings isn't official and they start over fresh when they can.
In the 200x WS, it looked like the Phillies could win over the Rays in a Rain-shortened game. Allan said at that point that he wouldn't have allowed a decisive playoff game to be determined by rain (Imagine everyone running on field once the umps determine it can't be resumed). I guess they've now made it official?
Ah, it must be the tie thing. I was thinking of games where they continued months after the fact, and wondering why they wouldn't just pick up where they left off here too.
It still seems a bit odd to me that they wouldn't just pick up where they left off, especially when they're playing the next day. But as long as it's applied consistently, I guess.
It's still possible for a team to clinch their division/wildcard on the last day of the season with a rain-shortened game, where the team would want to run on the field and celebrate when the umps call it. But the chances of that just seem so remote that Allan didn't feel a need to address it, I assume. Or maybe it's there in the rules:
"If, before the final scheduled day of the championship season, two or more teams are tied or within one game for one playoff position (either division and/or wild card, but not if all teams are guaranteed playoff spots), then the games involving those teams that are played until they are official shall not be ended before the 9th inning due to weather or other circumstances, but suspended and resumed at the next possible date. Should the outcome of other games make the results moot to whether or not each team is in the playoffs, then the suspended game may be ended early."
It'd require the actual rules-appropriate legalistic terminology for rain-shortened games.
I'm guessing this will be the game log used for the first game of the doubleheader today? Hopefully, Dozier will hit a leadoff homer again. Don't want to mess with the intro, you know.

There is a game log for all of today from 50 minutes ago.
