Okay, so I mentioned this album and song here yesterday, however, I had thought no live performances existed. This track is the "official video", but after comparing it to the album version, I'm relatively sure this is live. Okay, well, it's kind of liveish (the strings at least seem to have been recorded after the fact).
Anyway, yeah, the opening track from the most recent Bad Seeds:
I don't know how to rate this one. This song has been giving me the heebie-jeebies out since I first heard it on the radio right before Halloween.
Speaking of the live video requirement... the other day I listened to some Car Seat Headrest, and I liked it significantly more than I had when I'd originally listened here. I love live performances when I'm present, but replays of them tend to lose the magic for me, and I wonder if part of the reason I haven't loved some of the more widely loved bands around these parts is because my exposure has been to their live performances? Just thinking out loud here.
Music is messy, Phil.
No, noise is messy, Joe.
I'm of the other persuasion -- there are several songs that I love that just don't translate to live, unfortunately.
I wouldn't disagree with this either. Production matters a great deal to a lot of music.
I make no promises that I will use only live performances during Jeff A week.
