May 27, 2017: hungry joe is the Worst

hj isn't actually the worst. He really isn't even within shouting distance of the worst. However, I want to see what image he applies to this CoC.

  1. Bookface and IRL friend posted this challenge earlier today. Kind of fun. This is what I came up with:

Favorite MLB players By Position in "YOUR" Lifetime ...

C: Johnny Bench. No runs, drips, or errors. Honorable mentions to Baby Jeebus and Manny Sanguillen.

1b: Kent Hrbek. Hometown kid from Bloomington and harbinger of great things to come for the franchise. Plus, he brought WWF moves to the first base position.

2b Sir Rodney Carew. It couldn't be anyone else.

3b: Brooks Robinson. The Hoover. With Ron "The Penguin" Cey as a close second.

SS: This is a tough one. In my youth, shortstops were mostly known for defensive talent and offensive incompetence. Cal Ripken really started to change that. I appreciated Greg Gagne for his
quiet competence. I'll go with Mark Belanger.

LF: Joe Rudi. His spectacular catch at the wall in the 1972 WS is etched into my memory.

CF: KIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRBBBBBBYYYYY PUCKETTTTTT! With a nod to the Cesars (Geronimo with the Big Red Machine and Cedeno from the Astros for his spectacular athleticism) and to Fred Lynn.

RF: Tom Brunansky, with appreciation for Mr. October and Mr. May.

DH: not a lot resonates here.

LHP: Steve Carlton for sheer brilliance; Ron Guidry for being a little guy with a huge arm; and, of course, Frankie V and Johan Santana.

RHP: Luis Tiant for sheer entertainment value. Brad Radke for sheer grit. Gaylord Perry for his outlaw attitude.

RP: Al Hrabosky's awesome mustache; Mike Marshall for pitching in ALL the games.

Utility: Cesar Tovar seemingly invented this role. 50 or more career starts at SEVEN different positions.

Manager: Sparky Anderson for his leadership of the Big Red Machine, mostly, but also his work in Detroit. And Tom Kelly for his curmudgeonly charm, Zubaz stylings, and WS leadership.

  2. I didn't see a game log but I can't from my phone. Anyway can they put black jack out to pasture.

  3. Did Dick and Jack come out in favor of having balls and strikes called by technology? How about that?
