Minor Details: Games of May 29

An eighth-inning comeback carries the Red Wings.  Clark Beeker pitches well again in a Cedar Rapids loss.

ROCHESTER 5, INDIANAPOLIS 3 IN ROCHESTER

Trailing 3-1 after seven, the Red Wings scored four in the eighth to win the game.  Niko Goodrum had an RBI double, John Ryan Murphy put Rochester ahead with a two-run single, and Bengie Gonzalez brought home an insurance run with a double.  The Indians got a leadoff single in the ninth but did not advance him past first base.  Ex-Twin Danny Ortiz played center for Indianapolis.  He went 1-for-4 and is batting .259.

Aaron Slegers, who would have been a better choice to come up to the Twins than Jason Wheeler except that he's not on the forty-man roster, struck out seven in six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk.  Michael Tonkin struck out three in three shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.35.  Goodrum was 3-for-4 with a double.  Matt Hague was 2-for-4.  Zach Granite was 0-for-5 and is batting just .178 in his last ten games, a stretch which has resulted in his average dropping from .310 to .244.

KANE COUNTY 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN KANE COUNTY

Ben Rortvedt hit a two-run double in the top of the eighth to give the Kernels a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth, however, Jose Herrera hit an RBI double to tie it and scored on a Manny Jefferson single to give the Cougars the lead and the win.  Cedar Rapids got a two-out walk in the ninth, but no more.

Clark Beeker had another good game, going six innings and giving up one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.50.  Andrew Vasquez pitched a scoreless inning of relief to make his ERA 1.69.  The Kernels had only three hits in the game.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 and is batting .314.
