Minor Details: Games of July 30

Byron Buxton is ready and Aaron Slegers and ByungHo Park may be ready ,too.  Jonathan Rodriguez leads Chattanooga to a mere ten-inning win.  The Miracle split a doubleheader despite getting only four hits, all in game one.  A three-run homer drops the Kernels.  Ryler Widell is pitching well.

ROCHESTER 2, TOLEDO 0 IN TOLEDO

Byron Buxton homered leading off the sixth and ByungHo Park homered leading off the ninth.  I guess solo home runs can hurt you.  The Mud Hens had only four hits, all singles.  Their only threat was in the ninth, when a pair of one-out walks and a force out put men on first and third with two down.  A ground out ended the game.

Aaron Slegers pitched eight shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks with one strikeout.  In his last four starts he has given up one run in 29.2 innings.  John Curtiss pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 2.57 with a WHIP of 0.79 and 22 strikeouts in 14 innings.  Park was 2-for-4 with a home run, his ninth.  Daniel Palka was 2-for-4.  Buxton was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second, and is batting .417.

CHATTANOOGA 6, MONTGOMERY 3 IN MONTGOMERY (10 INNINGS)

A mere ten-inning game must have seemed like a day off after playing twenty-one innings the day before.  The Biscuits led 3-0 through six, but the Lookouts got two runs on one hit in the seventh and tied it on a Jonathan Rodriguez RBI single in the eighth.  Rodriguez came through again in the tenth, delivering a two-run single to put Chattanooga ahead.  He later scored on three walks.  Montgomery did not get the tying run up to bat in the bottom of the tenth.

Stephen Gonsalves pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.90 with 92 strikeouts in 80.2 innings.  Todd Van Steensel pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 1.52 with 51 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.  Gabriel Moya pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 0.78 with a WHIP of 0.78 and 72 strikeouts in 46 innings.  Levi Michael was 3-for-6 with a triple.  Max Murphy was 2-for-3 with three walks.  Alex Perez was 2-for-3 with two walks and is batting .338.  Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two walks and three RBIs and is batting .318.  Carlos Paulino was 1-for-4 and is batting .333.

FORT MYERS 4, CLEARWATER 0 IN CLEARWATER (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Brandon Lopez singled in a run in the fifth and three walks and an error enabled the Miracle to score three runs on one hit in the seventh.  The Threshers had only three hits.  Their only threat came in the second, when Zach Green was thrown out trying to score from second on a single.

Anthony McIver pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.32.  Michael Theofanopoulos struck out two in two shutout innings.  The Miracle had just four hits.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-4 and was batting .312.

CLEARWATER 2, FORT MYERS 0 IN CLEARWATER (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Miracle were no-hit in this one.  Threshers pitcher Harold Arauz allowed only one baserunner, a one-out walk to Brandon Lopez in the seventh.  Zach Green tripled and scored in the second inning and Austin Bossart singled home Green with an insurance run in the sixth.

Keaton Steele pitched three innings, giving up a run on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Williams Ramirez struck out three in two shutout innings.

CLINTON 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels led 2-1 after three, but Jhombeyker Morales doubled home a run in the fourth to tie it.  In the sixth, Gareth Morgan hit a three-run homer to put the LumberKings in the lead to stay.  Cedar Rapids got one back in the seventh but did not get the tying run on base.

Anthony Marzi struck out five in five innings, but he allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks.  Logan Lombana struck out two in two shutout innings.  Max Cordy also pitched two shutout innings.  The Kernels had just five hits, all singles.

ELIZABETHTON 9, KINGSPORT 1 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins scored in five of the first six innings to build a 9-0 lead.  Jose Miranda had a two-run single in the first and Andrew Cosgrove homered in the fourth, just to point out a couple of the big hits.  The Mets got their lone run when Anthony Dirocie homered in the eighth.

Ryley Widell struck out six in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  His ERA is 0.90 with a WHIP of 0.70 and 12 strikeouts in 10 innings.  Moises Gomez struck out five in five innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .339.  Miranda was 2-for-5 and is batting .331.  Andrew Bechtold was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .357.  Mark Contreras and T. J. Dixon were each 1-for-3 with a walk and are each batting .302.
