Minor Details: Games of July 31

LaMonte Wade gets the big hit for the Lookouts.  Glen Perkins struggles in a rehab assignment.  Jimmy Kerrigan drives in all the runs to support Charlie Barnes, who has a fine Class A debut.  Andrew Bechtold keeps hitting.  In the DSL, 4-3 in 2 games means 1 win.

CHATTANOOGA 7, MONTGOMERY 6 IN MONTGOMERY

Justin O'Connor hit a three-run homer in the fourth to give the Biscuits a 5-2 lead.  In the Lookouts sixth, a single and two walks loaded the bases with one out.  LaMonte Wade then hit a three-run triple to tie the game.  He later scored the go-ahead run on a Jonathan Rodriguez single.  Carlos Paulino singled home an insurance run in the ninth and Chattanooga needed it, as Andrew Velazquez led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple and scored on Jake Croenenworth's single.  A bunt moved him to second and a ground out moved him to third, but a popup ended the game.

Kohl Stewart struck out six in six innings, but allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks.  Randy LeBlanc struck out three in two shutout innings.  T. J. White was 2-for-5 with a home run, his ninth.  Paulino was 2-for-5 and is batting .339.  Max Murphy was 2-for-5.  Rodriguez was 1-for-5 and is batting .316.  Alex Perez was 0-for-5 and is batting .315.

CLEARWATER 6, FORT MYERS 3 IN CLEARWATER

Mitchell Kranson hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Miracle a 3-1 lead.  The lead lasted until the seventh, when Carlos Duran hit a two-run homer to tie it 3-3.  The first two Thresher batters in the eighth were retired, but a hit batsman, a stolen base, and a Jose Pulojs single put Clearwater ahead 4-3.  A single-plus-error put men on first and third, a double steal of second and home made it 5-3, and a Duran double closed out the scoring.  Fort Myers went down in order in the ninth.

Sean Poppen, coming off a pair of poor outings, pitched well, going six innings and giving up one run on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Glen Perkins pitched on inning, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-4.  Kranson's home run was his third.  Brent Rooker hit a home run, his second.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-4 and is batting .303.

CEDAR RAPIDS 2, CLINTON 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Jimmy Kerrigan hit a two-run homer in the sixth and that was it for the scoring.  The LumberKings had eight hits, six of them in the first five innings, but they were all singles and they went 0-for-11 with men in scoring position.

Charlie Barnes made a successful Class A debut.  Hestruck out four in four shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  Patrick McGuff struck out two in two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.15 with 36 strikeouts in 29.1 innings.  Ryan Mason struck out three in two shutout innings to lower his ERA to 2.12.  Hector Lujan struck out two in a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.51 with a WHIP of 0.91 and 42 strikeouts in 41.2 innings.  Gorge Munoz was 2-for-3 with a double.

ELIZABETHTON 9, KINGSPORT 3 IN ELIZABETHTON

Leading 4-2, the Twins scored four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  There were three doubles in the inning, with Jordan Gore driving in one, Jose Miranda bringing home two, and Andrew Bechtold sending home one.  The Mets got one run back in the eighth but did not threaten to get back into the game.

Melvi Acosta pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits ad no walks with three strikeouts.  Akil Baddoo was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks.  Carson Crites was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Andrew Bechtold was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and is batting .365.  Kolton Kendrick was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .341.  Jordan Gore was 1-for-5 with a double and is batting .389.  Jose Miranda was 1-for-5 with a double and is batting .325.

DSL PHLLIES RED 4, DSL TWINS 3 AT PHILLIES RED (GAME 1--8 INNINGS--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

It was 1-1 through seven.  In the top of the eighth, RBI singles by Yeremi De La Cruz and Estamy Urena gave the Twins a 3-1 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth, a bases-loaded walk scored one run, a sacrifice fly tied the game, and another sacrifice fly brought home the winning run.

Michael Montero pitched five innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.47 with a WHIP of 0.91 and 48 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.  Luciano De La Cruz pitched a scoreless inning.  Alberoni Nunez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk and is batting .367.  Samuel Vasquez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Urena was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .369.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 1-for-4 and is batting .347.  Ruben Santana was 0-for-4 and is batting .345.

DSL TWINS 4, DSL PHILLIES RED 3 AT TWINS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Twins made three errors in the fourth inning, leading to two Phillies Red runs and a 3-1 lead for the Phillies Red.  In the fifth, two singles and two wild pitches scored one run, Estamy Urena singled home another to tie the score, and a pickoff error allowed the go-ahead run to score.  The Phillies Red did not get a baserunner after that.

Steven Cruz pitched two innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and two walks with one strikeout.  Fernando Sanchez struck out four in 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.  Juan Martinez was 2-for-3 with a walk and is batting .323.  Agustin Marte was 2-for-4 and is batting .309.  Urena was 1-for-3 and is batting .368.
