Minor Details: Games of August 6

A big day for Kennys Vargas.  Levi Michael stays hot.  Tanner English and Zander Weil lead the Miracle.  Shane Carrier carries the Kernels.  Walks and errors sink the E-Twins.

ROCHESTER 8, SYRACUSE 4 IN SYRACUSE

The Chiefs led 4-3 after six, but the Red Wings tied it with one in the seventh and took the lead with four in the eighth.  Anthony Recker delivered a two-run single to give Rochester the lead.  Syracuse threatened in the bottom of the eighth, putting men on first and third with one out, but did not score and did not bring the tying run up to bat.  Ex-Twins Neal Cotts and Neil Ramirez pitched for the Chiefs, with Cotts taking the loss.

Aaron Slegers pitched five innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks.  He did strike out six.  Alex Wimmers pitched two perfect innings.  John Curtiss struck out two in two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.04 with a WHIP of 0.91 and 24 strikeouts in 17.2 innings.  Kennys Vargas was 3-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.  Leonardo Reginatto was 2-for-3 with two walks.  Zack Granite was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fourth, and is batting .352.

CHATTANOOGA 17, JACKSON 5 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Lookouts scored eight in the first and four in the second to take a 12-0 lead and put it out of reach early.  T. J. White and Brian Navaretto each had a two-run single and Levi Michael had a two-run double in the first.

Zack Littell pitched well for five innings, but his line reads 5.2 innings, five runs, eight hits, and one walk with five strikeouts.  Ryan Eades pitched 2.1 scoreless innings.  Nick Anderson pitched a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 1.14 with a WHIP of 0.76 and 28 strikeouts in 23.2 innings.  Michael was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring three times and driving in three.  He is batting .391 over his last ten games.  Navaretto was 3-for-5 with a home run, his second, scoring three times and driving in five.  White was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a walk and is batting .314.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-5.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-6 with a double.

FORT MYERS 5, JUPITER 4 IN FORT MYERS (10 INNINGS)

Tanner English hit a three-run homer and Zander Weil followed with a solo shot to give the Miracle a 4-1 lead after one inning.  The Hammerheads scored single runs in the second, third, and fifth to tie it up.  It stayed tied until the tenth.  Jupiter put men on first and second with one out in the top of the tenth, but a strikeout and a ground out ended the inning.  In the bottom of the tenth, English reached base on a force out, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Weil to win the game.

Sean Poppen pitched only three innings, giving up three runs on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Tom Hackimer struck out four in two shutout innings to make his ERA 0.99 with a WHIP of 0.95 and 29 strikeouts in 27.1 innings.  Sam Clay pitched two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 1.24.  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 0.70 with a WHIP of 0.90 and 41 strikeouts in 25.2 innings.  Weil was 2-for-3 with a home run (his ninth) and two walks.  English was 2-for-5 with a home run (his seventh) and three RBIs.  Sean Miller was 2-for-5 with a double.  Mitchell Kranson was 2-for-5.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, WISCONSIN 0 IN WISCONSIN

Shane Carrier homered in the second and again in the fifth to give the Kernels a 2-0 lead.  Cedar Rapids added two in the sixth to take control of the game.  The Timber Rattlers did not advance a man past second base.

Charlie Barnes struck out seven in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  His ERA remains at zero with a WHIP of 0.89 and 11 strikeouts in 9 innings.  Logan Lombana struck out two in two shutout innings.  Ryan Mason pitched two shutout innings to make his ERA 1.89.  Carrier was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his second and third) and a double.  Jordan Gore was 1-for-3 and is batting .353.

BLUEFIELD 8, ELIZABETHTON 3 IN BLUEFIELD

An error put the Twins ahead 3-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Blue Jays responded with five in the bottom of the fourth and were never challenged again.  Three walks, two errors, and a wild pitch contributed to the five-run inning.  Elizabethton made four errors in the game.

Ryley Widell pitched 3.1 innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  His ERA is 1.35 with 15 strikeouts in 13.1 innings.  The Twins had just four hits.  Akil Baddoo was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .333.  Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .325.  Carson Crites was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .316.
