Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of October 18

A big day for Sean Miller.  David Hurlbut pitches well.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Twins:  Sean Miller was 3-for-5 with a double.  Chris Paul was 0-for-5.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-4.

PEORIA 6, SURPRISE 4 IN SURPRISE

Peoria scored two in the second and led all the way.  Surprise trailed 6-2 but scored two in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate.  Alex Jackson (Atlanta) was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run, his second.  Javier Guerra (San Diego) was 3-for-5.  Henry Owens (Boston) pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Josh Morgan (Texas) hit a home run for Surprise.

SALT RIVER 6, MESA 5 IN MESA

Mesa scored two in the first, but Salt River came back to score six unanswered runs.  Jason Vosler (Cubs) hit a three-run homer in the eighth to cut the lead to 6-5, but the last four Mesa batters were retired.  Lucas Erceg (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a home run to lead Salt River.  Keegan Akin (Baltimore) pitched three shutout innings of relief, giving up one hit and striking out two.

SCOTTSDALE 9, GLENDALE 5 IN SCOTTSDALE

It was tied 5-5 after three, but Scottsdale scored two in the fourth to go into the lead to stay.  Steven Duggar (San Francisco) was 4-for-5 and scored three runs.  Troy Montgomery (Angels) was 2-for-5 with a triple.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was 0-for-3.  Anthony Marzi (Margarita) started and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

ZULIA 4, MARGARITA 3 IN MARGARITA

Trailing 4-1, Margarita scored two in the eighth to get back into the game.  They got a leadoff double in the ninth from Rudy Flores, but a strikeout, a ground out, and a strikeout ended the game.  Ali Castillo was 2-for-3 with a double for Zulia.  Elieser Hernandez pitched five innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

LARA 4, ANZOATEGUI 1 IN LARA

Jesus Montero hit a two-run homer in the first to give Lara a 2-1 lead.  Montero was 3-for-4 with two homers, his second and third.  Rangel Ravelo was 3-for-4.  Jorge Martinez pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

ARAGUA 11, MAGALLANES 7  IN ARAGUA

Magallanes scored three in the seventh to tie it 7-7, but Aragua scored four in the eighth to win it.  Jose Vargas was 3-for-3 with a triple and two home runs, driving in six runs.  Luis Villegas was 2-for-4.

LA GUAIRA 6, CARACAS 2 IN CARACAS (11 INNINGS)

Isaias Tejeda hit a grand slam in the eleventh to give La Guaira the victory.  Tejeda was 3-for-6.  Omar Carrizales was 3-for-5 with a walk.  Edgmer Escalona pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with one strikeout.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

LOS MOCHIS 6, JALISCO 5 IN LOS MOCHIS

Down 4-2, Los Mochis scored four in the eighth then held on, as Jalisco got one back in the ninth and had the tying run on second when the game ended.  Saul Soto was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.  Olmo Rosario was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

NAVOJOA 6, OBREGON 2 IN OBREGON

Navojoa scored two in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.  Quincy Latimore was 3-for-4.  Tyler Kane pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

MEXICALI 2, CULIACAN 1 IN MEXICALI

All the runs were scored in the first inning, as Sebastian Elizalde hit a home run in the top of the first and Ricky Alvarez hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first.  Ramon Rios was 2-for-3 with a triple.  Sergio Mitre (remember him?) pitched seven innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

HERMOSILLO 4, MAZATLAN 2 IN HERMOSILLO

Mazatlan scored two in the top of the eighth to tie it 2-2, but Hermosillo got two in the bottom of the eighth on a single, two walks, a hit batsman, and another walk.  Domonic Brown (remember him?) was 3-for-4 with a double.  Casey Coleman (remember him?) pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

TwinsCarlos Paulino (Gigantes) was 1-for-3.  David Hurlbut (Licey) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks with one strikeout.

LICEY 4, GIGANTES 2 AT GIGANTES

Trailing 2-1, Licey got a two-run double from Juan Francisco in the seventh and added an insurance run on an error.  Yamaico Navarro was 1-for-3 with two walks.

ORIENTE 5, ESCOGIDO 4 IN ORIENTE

Trailing 4-3, Oriente scored two in the ninth, with Angelo Mora bringing home the winning run with an infield single.  Fernando Tatis, Jr. was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. and Blake Swihart were each 3-for-4 for Escogido.  Escogido out-hit Oriente 11-5.

AGUILAS 2, ESTE 1 IN ESTE

Zoilo Almonte led off the bottom of the ninth with a walkoff homer, breaking a 1-1 tie.  Luis Gonzalez was 2-for-3.  Jorge Lopez struck out five in five innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and two walks.
