Short log today, as it's Newbish's birthday party (his actual birthday is tomorrow but scheduling is easier today).
After a surprising win last night (more surprising in that Gibson actually got a deserved win), Fernando Romero tries to right his ship.
Go Twins
Late lineup change: Mauer will DH rather than play first, and Morrison will play first rather than DH.
This may mean nothing, but it adds to what I was thinking earlier--I see no reason to believe that Mauer is actually fully recovered. I hope he can prove me wrong.
More first inning runs!
and esky doubles!
Eduardo flexing his two-base superpower again
Good news and bad news. The good news is that Byron Buxton will start a rehab assignment Tuesday. The bad news is that Trevor May is back on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation.
Escobars doubles barrage this year reminds me of the strike year where Knoblauch hit a gazillion doubles (ok, 45) and probably would have approached the record of 67, but then the games stopped in August.
Knoblauch did tie the Twins record that Kirby Puckett (1989) and Zoillo Versalles shared at the time. Marty Cordova had 46 in 1996 and Justin Morneau set the Twins record of 47 in 2008. The franchise record is 51 by Mickey Vernon in 1946.
Escobar has 27 doubles now in 67 team games. Prorating that to 162 puts him at 65 doubles. The projections predict 14 (Steamer) to 20 (ZiPS) more doubles for the rest of the season, but they also are way under on playing time compared to the first 67 games. Bringing them closer to what he's done so far, they agree on about 19-21 more this season.
YESS!
Bases-loaded doubles are good.
Solo home runs don't hurt you.
Again, solo home runs don't hurt you.
Second inning runs are good, too!
I leave we give up two runs. I come back and the bases are loaded
da hell is that baserunning gah
Baserunning, gotta be Rosario.
Wild throw from the outfield, gotta be Rosario.
4 hits on 4 pitches, gotta be Rosario!
I thought you were joking but no. The only time Rosario took pitches was his first inning walk.
When was the last time a position player pitched against the Twins?
Wasn't there one early this season? Baltimore?
Huh. Twins have not scored double digits in a game yet
this season
I just wanted to point out that the Twins are unbeaten in games in which Taylor Motter has appeared.
They are also 9-8 in games Bobby Wilson has started. They're 5-3 when he gets a hit and 3-1 when he drives in a run. They're 1-0 when he hits a home run.
So there was a time I was higher on Oswaldo than Rosario
There was a time when I was higher on Sano than Rosario...
There was a time I was higher on Sano than Escobar. (Did not see that coming.)
I went to take a look at his bbref page to see if we should have, but nope, didn't see that coming.
