Minor Details: Games of July 8

Good games in defeat for Byron Buxton and Fernando Romero.  Luis Arraez starts hitting in AA.  Miguel Sano is batting well in Fort Myers, not that anyone doubted he could.  Good games in defeat for Akil Baddoo and Bryan Sammons.

LEHIGH VALLEY 7, ROCHESTER 6 IN LEHIGH VALLEY (10 INNINGS)

The Red Wings led 5-2 through seven, but Dean Anna doubled home a run in the eighth and Danny Espinoza delivered a two-run single in the ninth.  Kennys Vargas singled home a run in the top of the tenth.  In the bottom half, Joey Meneses delivered a two-out two-run single to end the game.

Byron Buxton was 3-for-5 with a double.  He is now batting .239.  Vargas was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.  Juan Graterol was 2-for-4 with a double.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.

Fernando Romero pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and no walks and striking out six.  His ERA is 2.04.  Adalberto Mejia was used for an inning of relief, giving up an unearned run on one hit and striking out one.  I don't know if that's the start of a change in his role or if there were just some circumstances that required it.

JACKSONVILLE 5, CHATTANOOGA 2 IN JACKSONVILLE

The Jumbo Shrimp scored four in the second and cruised to victory.  The were helped in the inning by a walk, a hit batsman, and an error.

Luis Arraez was 3-for-5 and is batting .333.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Zander Wiel was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and is batting .305.

Omar Bencomo pitched six innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk and striking out four.  Paco Rodriguez struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

BRADENTON 6, FORT MYERS 4 IN BRADENTON

The Miracle led 3-1 through sixth, but the Marauders scored five in the seventh.  Adrian Valero had a two-run single to bring home the lead runs.  The Miracle loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but could only score one.

Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 and is batting .340.  It might be time to give the kid a chance at a higher level.

Brusdar Graterol had a much better second game at high-A, going 6.1 innings and giving up three runs on six hits and two walks and striking out five.  Adam Bray pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one walk and striking out one.  His ERA is 1.08.

KANE COUNTY 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN KANE COUNTY

The Kernels led 3-0 and 4-3, but the Cougars scored two in the ninth to win it.  They had a man on first and two out, but Yoel Yanqui doubled home the tying run and Ernie De La Trinidad singled home the deciding run.

Akil Baddoo was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Robby Rinn was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .320.  Royce Lewis was 0-for-3 with two walks and is batting .316.  Jared Akins was 1-for-4, raising his average to .097.

DANVILLE 3, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN ELIZABETHTON

A sacrifice fly in the seventh brought home the Twins' lone run, tying it 1-1.  The Twins left the bases loaded, however, and it cost them, as the Braves scored two in the ninth to win.  Andrew Moritz brought home the deciding runs with a two-run double.  The Twins left men on first and second in the ninth.

Trevor Casanova was 2-for-3 with a walk and is batting .381.  Yunior Severino was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .333.  Ryan Jeffers was 0-for-4 and is batting .361.  Lean Marrero was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .300.
