Minor Details: Games of July 31

Home runs by Jon Kemmer and Taylor Motter lead the Red Wings.  The Miracle wins a close one.  A fine game by Edwar Colina for the Kernels.   Gilberto Celestino announces his presence with authority.  The GCL Twins pull one out in the ninth.  Bryant Perez pitches well but is let down by the bullpen.

ROCHESTER 8, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 3 IN ROCHESTER

A four-run third carried the Red Wings.  Jon Kemmer hit a three-run homer in the inning.

Kemmer was 3-for-4 with a double in addition to the home run.  He scored twice and drove in three.  Taylor Motter was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, his fourth.  Willians Astudillo was 2-for-5.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-5.

Fernando Romero pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks and striking out four.  Jake Reed pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two walks and striking out two.  His ERA is 2.31.

Rained out.

FORT MYERS 3, JUPITER 2 IN FORT MYERS

Two singles, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly brought home the lead run in the eighth inning.

Taylor Grzelakowski was 3-for-4 with a double.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .500.

Charlie Barnes pitched 3.1 innings before being removed following a rain delay.  He gave up one run on four hits and two walks and struck out one.  His ERA is 2.81.  Hector Lujan pitched three shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out two.  His ERA is 2.64.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, QUAD CITIES 1 IN QUAD CITIES

The Kernels scored six in the fourth and cruised to a win.  Jacob Pearson and Michael Davis each had a two-run double in the inning.

Ryan Jeffers was 3-for-5 with a home run (his second) and a double.  He is batting .321.  Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  He is batting .349.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-5 with a home run (his thirteenth), scoring twice and driving in two.  Robby Rinn was 1-for-4 and is batting .305.

Edwar Colina struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.  His ERA is 2.97.  Jose Martinez pitched three shutout innings, giving up only a walk and striking out two.

ELIZABETHTON 8, JOHNSON CITY 5 IN JOHNSON CITY

A three-run fifth broke a 4-4 tie.  Alex Robles hit a two-run single to bring home the lead runs.

Gilberto Celestino was 4-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  He is batting .625 (5-for-8) since joining Elizabethton.  Trevor Casanova was 2-for-3 with two walks and is batting .312.  Robles was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  He is batting .328.  Trevor Larnach was 2-for-4 with two home runs and a walk.  He is batting .300.  Lean Marrero was 2-for-4.

Kody Funderburk lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks and striking out one.  Tanner Howell struck out four in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Zach Neff struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 2.70.

GCL TWINS 7, GCL ORIOLES 6 AT TWINS

The Twins trailed 6-5 going to the ninth.  An error and two bunt singles loaded the bases with none out.  A force out tied the game and a sacrifice fly brought home the deciding run.

Yeison Perez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Erick Rivera was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Hunter Lee was 2-for-5.  Tyler Webb was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .397.  Janigson Villalobos was removed from the game during the bottom of the second inning, presumably due to injury, although we have not confirmed that.

Tyler Benninghoff pitched four innings, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks and striking out two.  Erik Cha struck out two in a perfect inning and has an ERA of 1.26.

DSL METS1 6, DSL TWINS 5 AT METS1

The Twins led 5-0 half-way through, but the Mets1 scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth.  The Twins did not advance a man past first after the sixth inning.

Francisco Martinez was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, driving in two.  Luis Gomez was 2-for-4.  Yelinson Pena was 2-for-4.  Felix Reyes was 2-for-4.  Victor Heredia was 1-for-5 and is batting .351.

Byrant Perez struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up six hits and two walks.  His ERA is zero through fourteen innings.
